Spring severe weather and natural disasters have started. Several states have already had tornadoes. Tornadoes usually mean power outages. If your home is like so many today, your phones are cordless and do not work when the power goes out. That makes it impossible to call emergency services or loved ones to let them know how you are. Your TV’s and radios will not be available to get emergency information. Sometimes it can be hours or even days before electricity is restored. No one wants to be caught unprepared in these emergency situations. One way to be prepared for an emergency or disaster is with our Lifeline emergency kit with a phone. The Slim line phone features non-power operation with wall plug, lighted keypad, and redial button. The Dynamo Powered AM/FM Radio features a hand-cranked operation. With 1 min rotating at speed 120rpm s, the radio can play 40 to 55 min. If fully charge by AC/DC adapter for about 2.5 hrs or by hand rotating about 90 min, the charged radio can play 6 hrs. The kit also has a Dynamo Powered Flashlight. Be prepared for any disaster or emergency by visiting our site and checking out this kit or any of our other first aid or survival kits at http://www.survivalfirstaidstore.com

E very day we are face with making a decision and it is not all the time that we are able to make the right decision, but we must never stop trying to do what is right for us.
The decision to make you marketable would be a no brainer in any given situation. This why it is absolutely necessary for you to have the proper tools to enhance your presentation skills, without the correct tool you are no more marketable than the other person that presents using a ruler or pen to highlight the key points of the presentation.
When you present using a laser pointer you are placing yourself in the master’s circle of presenters. Come and browse through our selection of laser pointer pens to choose the pointer that satisfy your needs.

Welcome back to”Which saw is right for the job” by Ricky P. Brumfield?
In the last segment we mentioned increasing run time by using sharp accessories. This time we will discuss battery choice and care.
NiCad batteries will give you about 40% longer run time than normal batteries. Remember to run down your batteries all the way because most batteries develop what is referred to as memory. Simply put if you run a battery half way down and then recharge, it will remember this and quickly discharge at about ½ full in anticipation of recharging. So by running your battery all the way down it builds a memory of this and will last longer before needing recharging.
To combat this problem manufacturers like DeWalt have come up with the next generation in battery technology for the do-it-yourselfer and professional alike. They have developed NANO-phosphate lithium ion cellsthat don’t develop memory and have virtually no self discharge when in storage. So treat yourself or that handy man or woman in your life to the little extra that makes the difference this Christmas.

Welcome back to “Which saw is right for the job” by Ricky P. Brumfield?
The last time we discussed using a battery operated tool as our tool of choice on any job. Today we are going to discuss run time and how to get the most bangs for the buck.
Believe it or not it’s not the battery as much as it is a sharp bit or blade. Not only does it increase run time but helps with accuracy as well. You will find yourself able to operate your tools like a pro quicker if you follow this one simple rule. Change dull blades and bits often.
Thesawstore.com offers saw accessories for the brands we sell. Remember carrying an extra sharp blade or bit can make the difference between a fast, hassle free experience and a big chore.

Welcome back to “Which Saw is Right for the Job” by Ricky P. Brumfield of thesawstore.com?
The last installment was dedicated to metal buildings and the money you could save customizing a low cost generic kit yourself. Today we are going to discuss erecting similar kits on a jobsite without power. We could purchase a generator that would provide us with outlets and a noisy, eco- unfriendly option or we could purchase rechargeable battery operated tools that could be charged at home and easily brought to the job with minimal space taken up in transport. The newer technologies available in both tools and batteries make this a viable option.
Thesawstore.com offers individual tools with batteries and chargers included or whole kits that share the same batteries and chargers. DeWalt, Milwaukee, Porter Cable offer a full line of battery operated tools with battery sizes designed for the occasional use, 12V, and commercial applications 14.4V, 18V, 24V, and 36V. Depending on the torque desired the commercial models offer extended time before having to recharge. You would be advised to bring at least 2 fully charged batteries if power is not available. Vehicle chargers are available when charging off site is not an option at lunch because of distance or time issues.
Thesawstore.com offers battery operated combo kits in a variety of combinations and manufacturers depending on your specific needs and wants. We feel you can find what you need to complete your project from our offered selections. If you can’t, contact us and we will do our best to make sure you do.

Which saw is right for the job? By Ricky P. Brumfield
Hello everyone! In our last installment of, “Which saw is right for the job? “, we discussed using the miter saw to make beveled cuts such as would be needed for cove or base board and how easy a proper setup would make the job.
This time we are going to discuss you wanting to put up your own metal building. We all know for thousands of dollars we can buy prefab kits. The problem is they rarely have exactly what we need so we wonder how hard would it be to either have them custom make what we need(thousands of more dollars) or could we possibly do it ourselves. The answer is absolutely yes, if we have the right saw for the job.
The Saw Store .com offers a Milwaukee chop saw or metal cutting portable band saw option that could literally save you all the custom cost for your package. All you have to do is decide on the design changes you need and make the custom cuts to the tubing yourself using the original parts from the generic lower cost kit.
We also provide a great DeWalt cut off saw that can be used for this purpose. DeWalt has a great 36V circular saw that cuts metal and would make the straight or beveled cuts with ease. Not only can you modify the tubing but you could modify the sheet siding to fit your new design just like a pro.

There are many ways to point out distance objects, but how many ways are there to accurately point out the object?
How accurately can you point out a particular star amongst billions of stars or a constellation?
If you do not have the required tool this can be a very frustrating effort.
When you use one of our Astronomy-Power Green Laser Pointers you are sure to identify any star or constellation with pin point accuracy or any object from a distance.

Which saw is right for the job? Written by Ricky P. Brumfield of thesawstore.com.
Welcome back to, “which saw is right for the job? “ Last time we discussed mass producing piece and chose the table saw. This worked really well as long as we were making straight cuts not angle cuts. To mass produce angled (mitered) cuts you need to consider some type of miter saw.
You are supplied with many guides marked in degrees and inches or millimeters to help you accurately decide how you want to make your mitered (angled) cut. With most of todays miter saws the hard part of making angled cuts is made simple. You can cut crown and base moldings like a pro. If you are changing the look of existing construction or just trying to save some money by finishing an add on yourself. You can make installing base board, door trim, crown mold a snap with a miter saw purchased from thesawstore.com.
We provide you the experience needed to make sure you get the right miter saw for your job. We offer several name brand models with different features and make sure what you need is available to you.

Which saw is right for the job, By Ricky P. Brumfield of thesawstore.com?
We discussed the reciprocating saw last time and had you putting in doorways. Now it’s time to build a set of shelves or cabinets in the pantry or shed. You’re going to need to mass produce pieces. You can use your trusty circular saw and most probably be happy their going to be hidden or consider our next selection, the table saw.
For straight cuts that are consistently the same this is the best choice. You can produce the same pieces accurately over and over. With the many safety features offered with today’s saws almost anybody can make shelving like a pro. Cutting plywood sheeting for cabinet bases and top grade lumber for cabinet faces is pretty much what a table saw was invented for. Imagine needing some 2” pieces and only having 6” stock. You Bring out your table saw and make the pieces.
At thesawstore.com we provide you several models and name brands to ensure you get the right table saw for your job.

Which saw is right for the job? By Ricky P. Brumfield of thesawstore.com.
After trying to cut existing studs with a jig saw I knew right away there had to be a better way.
Imagine you trying to make an access hole to get to a plumbing leak. How would you go about it? The first thing would be to penetrate the wall. You would decide where and cut away the wall board, expose the wall framing and pipes, and hopefully find the leak. The perfect power tool for this is the Reciprocating saw. It can be equipped with different blades to cut wood or metal. They also make wrecking blades that work on wood and metal.
Another application for the reciprocating saw would be installing that door where they should have put it anyway. Not only can you cut the wallboard but you can remove the framing and plate material using the reciprocating saw. By using different types of saw blades this is easily accomplished.
At the sawstore.com we provide name brand reciprocating saws with the blades you will need to complete your project. We Have available both corded and battery operated models for your convenience.

Which SAW is right for the job? By Ricky P. Brumfield of THESAWSTORE.COM continued.
After discussing circular saws and their use as both cross cut (2×4’s) and ripping (plywood) tools I wondered how well my sons had learned. As it turned out neither owns a circular saw. The oldest picked a saber saw as his only saw and the youngest just borrows his brothers’. Come to find out his wife bought it for his birthday.
This brings us to our next saw and its applications. The saber (jig) saw replaced my hand saw for finishing those inside cuts that the circular saw couldn’t finish. It makes for a much better fit to have your lines stop where the inside corners meet.
I quickly realized making rounded corners on window sills allowed me to offer an extra style to my customers. This set my creative side loose. I learned to make curved lines in things like shelf brackets. I rounded corners on cabinet tops and shelving. It is a very useful tool when you’re trying to soften the edges of your custom designs.
I made plywood letters using my circular saw to cut the straight portions and the jig (saber) saw to cut the curved portions. I finally tackled projects like book shelves and simple desks and found it an indispensible tool when remodeling. Often I have to custom fit that one piece to tie the old into the new and found myself digging out my trusty jigsaw to make it happen.
After burning up a few el cheapo jigsaws I realized they made better ones. There were several special functions built into these higher priced saws that need to be explored before deciding which saw or saws meet your needs.
The first feature I look for is keyless blade changing. I find that I have a hard time finding my hex wrench when it comes time to change blades. The second is an adjustable foot plate. It makes it much easier to be able to bevel the guide when special miter cuts are desired. An extra that I really like is a directional dust blower that keeps sawdust from blocking my view of the line I’m cutting. Another feature some craftsmen look for is a rotating head for scroll cuts. The last option I consider is corded or cordless. For me the answer was simple, both. I found myself in too many situations where power was not readily available. Cordless allowed me to continue working no matter the power situation.
Remember, a sharp saw blade is important for accuracy and ease of use. I always keep several jigsaw blades handy because they are thin and break easily. Also different lengths are useful for different thicknesses of stock.
I tried to cut nails in existing stud walls but found the jigsaw lacking. Ergo our next installment, the reciprocating saw and it’s uses.
At THESAWSTORE.COM we offer our experience to help you decide which saw is right for your job. Until our next installment of “Which SAW is right for the job?” this has been Ricky P. Brumfield with http://THESAWSTORE.COM.

Which SAW is right for the job By Ricky P. Brumfield, at THESAWSTORE.COM?
We want to let you know that experience and dedication to the building crafts has helped us at the sawstore.com become knowledgeable in the products we sell. We only provide brands that we have grown to trust throughout many years of use on the job. We hope to provide you with years of service and selection for your changing needs
As a carpenter for the last 32 years, I have been put in many situations where I had to make do with the tools I had with me on the job site. In the beginning I had to decide which saw I was going to own. I opted for a corded circular saw because I was rough framing and cutting a lot of 2×4’s and plywood. The circular saw was the right tool because I could change from cross cutting (2×4’s) to ripping (plywood) by changing blades. To finish inside connecting cuts I used a handsaw left to me when my grandfather passed away. After a few weeks on the job I discovered combination blades and they worked equally well for both applications. After that I only had to change blades when they became dull. You would be surprised how important keeping your saw blades sharp and keeping the proper set (the angle of the teeth on the blade) is for ease of use and accuracy while cutting.
As for brand, I opted for as cheap as I dared. I started with a Black&Decker model which was relatively inexpensive, around $50.00, and it lasted for about a year. I discovered that it was a great choice for the occasional user, like most homeowners, but lacked the durability needed for everyday use. I still keep one around for those new employees who need a good, but inexpensive, saw that will last until they decide if carpentry is for them.
After I wore my Black&Decker out I opted to purchase a worm drive SKIL saw. The worm gear made for a stronger, more durable tool but almost doubled the weight. It sure would turn a dull blade through just about anything though. I soon discovered it was not the perfect tool because of the weight and found out why carpenters own more than one saw. If I was mass producing parts for a project or decking, putting down plywood sheeting, the floor or roof of a large house or apartment the worm drive was the way to go. If I was hanging out over the edge cutting rafter tails I opted for something lighter. Usually a direct drive circular saw with as small a motor as would do the work and with as good an impact rating as I could find so when I dropped it I hadn’t just thrown away the price of a new saw.
After many years and many circular saws I now own just three. I still have the SKIL worm drive after thirty-one years, a testament to worm drive technology. A MILWAUKEE direct drive with tilt lock handle and that ever squealing, reasonably priced, always being replaced Black&Decker direct drive. Even though I only own three circular saws I have found there are many brands out there that are just as good as the ones I own and have tried to offer as many as possible for your convenience.
We will continue this mini seminar on “Which SAW is right for the job?” in our next blog. Until then this has been Ricky P. Brumfield with http://THESAWSTORE.COM.

Did you know that stainless steel can rust or corrode? It’s true. Stainless steel is only corrosion resistant. When used in wet or marine environments, tools made from any grade of stainless steel will rust if not cleaned and re-oiled. Leatherman multi-tools are made from hard, corrosion resistant stainless steel so they’re strong and the knives maintain their sharp edge. You can buff out stains with a polishing cloth or non-metallic abrasive pad. I had one customer call in about his Leatherman Wave he’d stored on his boat and it was all rusty when he took it out. A little TLC and it was as good as new but he could have prevented the corrosion with a good coating of light machine oil or WD40. A little routine maintenance will keep your stainless steel tools ready to go for a long, long time.

Are you someone who uses hand tools? How about multi-tools? And, ever use a vice grip? Well, us do-it-your-selfers have multi-tools out there with, you guessed it, vice grips. The other day at work (I’m a mechanic on postal equipment) one of the other mechanics was showing me his Kershaw multi-tool that featured a needle nose vice grip. He really liked it and relied on it. Sometimes you really need pliers that clamp on and stay put, right? He didn’t know that Leatherman makes a really good vice grip multi tool, the “Crunch.” With the extra tools that come on a multi-tool, the compact-folding Crunch really is a versatile ally you might want to consider adding to your arsenal.
