A wooden train set is an adaptable toy that can start as a small set and be built up over time to become much more substantial system. Being involved in the arts is so important for children’s growth. Schools are interested in correct answers memorized or deduced logically, whereas the arts are concerned with feelings. One of the big lessons learned is that the arts teach that small differences can have large effects. Think of the difference in mood resulting from a song being played slowly versus quickly. Also, composers like to write variations on a theme, resulting in a large difference from the original.

Have you ever had trouble deciding on a suitable gift for a new baby. I must admit, it did not worry me so much once. I would just purchase a cuddly toy or some cute soft clothing. However, now that I am more aware of organics, I am concerned that I buy something completely safe for the infant.

Everyone Can Be in the Band
Studies have shown that children who are exposed to and learn to play a musical instrument have an advantage over children who don’t, especially in the area of math. Music lessons can be expensive, and not every child is a candidate for violin or piano. Human beings are naturally rhythmic, since we all have a heartbeat, and walking and talking also have a rhythm all their own.
So how does a parent provide musical experience without breaking the bank or imposing a rigid schedule of lessons and practice? One possibility is to create a percussion band. Even if there are only two people in the family, you can have a lot of fun and help your child’s brain develop. Almost anything can serve as a drum, rattle, shaker or sound-making device. You can make your own mallets and drums out of everyday things. You can also fill cans with beans or rice to make shakers. Even two instruments can be exciting!
Starting with a simple 1-2-3-4 beat, you and your children can play along to favorite songs. Add marching or skipping to foster balance and rhythm. Tap on many different surfaces to hear the different kinds of sounds they make.

Your child will soon grow up to really appreciate their surroundings. Having a business where I sell certified organic cotton products for infants and toddlers has made me more aware of what exactly gets added to a natural fiber, such as cotton, to produce a product which is less expensive and of lesser quality. I can honestly feel the difference when I touch a conventionally produced cotton product and that of an organic cotton product. The organic cotton is much softer and is more durable so it will last longer. Some of the conventional cotton products feel like plastic, they are so stiff.
What makes them feel like this is the addition of chemicals and pesticides to the actual cotton plant and during the processing of the cotton. These additives break down the fibers; make them stiff and less durable than a natural fiber. Because the cotton has been altered, sometimes other synthetic materials are added for shape and feel. That is just touching on the way the garment is produced, never mind what it is doing to your skin or how these chemicals release into your wash when doing laundry.
I see more and more ads for organic cotton clothing and to me it just makes sense to spend the extra money for the quality and the durability. I also know what is against my skin, and my skin isn’t as delicate as your baby’s skin, so imagine how a conventionally produced cotton product affects their delicate skin.
You get what you pay for and when so many industries are taking short cuts to produce items so that they can cut costs etc., is it really worth it?

We cannot easily avoid exposure to the many toxins and chemicals in our lives today. The air, streams and oceans are polluted. Even including fish in our diet is debatable because of the number of contaminants likely to be in it. Pesticides and fungicides are used in the growing of fruits and vegetables and antibiotics and growth promoters in meat and dairy.
Various toxic chemicals for such “benefits” as no iron, anti-static etc. are used in the manufacture of clothing. Commercial growing of cotton, used in the clothing industry, is one of the highest users of toxic substances. Even more chemicals are present in synthetic clothing.

In a day when children are expected to logically think through the solution to a math problem or respond to other questions with answers they have memorized, the arts teach children about feelings and a different way of thinking. The arts teach children to think through and within a material. In writing a play, the author must think about how the play will unfold as well as how it will be enacted on a stage. Literacy means being able to read and write. A child’s reading skills are important to their success in school and work. In addition, reading can be a fun and imaginative activity for children, which opens doors to all kinds of new worlds for them. Reading and writing are important ways we use language to communicate.
Parents play a critical role in helping their children develop not only the ability to read, but also an enjoyment of reading. Reading is the most fundamental access skill. It is so important for children to be introduced to the arts - and this can be done beginning at an early age. Parents can sing simple “camp” songs, children can take part in plays, or be given the opportunity to paint pictures. All these activities show the child that the limits of our language do not define the limits of our understanding. All these show children that feelings as well as knowledge are important.
When children are unable to express their feelings, they can often paint a picture to express their emotions. All the arts - dance, art or music - allow us to express emotions not possible by merely words or numbers. The first two years of a child’s life are so important because it is then that a large part of the pattern for adult life is set. Because parents are the central figures in the lives of children, their beliefs will determine the education of the child. Hopefully, parents will realize the importance of involving their children in the Arts. Whereas in school, children learn there is one correct answer, in the Arts there are multiple ways to view the world. In art, the tree trunks might be red, blue or purple. One of the best reasons for having your children involved in the Arts is that being involved teaches them to make good judgments. Most of the curriculum requires them to give correct answers, but in the Arts, it is judgment rather than correct answers that prevails.
A good place to start is to put a painting in your child’s bedroom and ask questions about it. For the painting “The Chorus Line,” the parent might ask what are the colors of the tree trunks, is there a squirrel in any of the trees, what is behind the bush, and similar questions. These questions and others help the child to enjoy the painting and later to put himself in the painting and work out the frustrations of childhood.

Today’s world confronts us all with many choices and problems to solve, not the least of which is the proper formation and education of our children, especially if we are parents or grandparents concerned about their growth in faith, belief in God and becoming good persons. The Arts teach children many important lessons - although local budget makers might disagree as they cut art budgets first! Whereas, school teaches children facts, the arts teach children about their emotions and about a perspective on life. One lesson is that problems can have more than one solution and that questions can have more than one answer. Think of the musicians who wrote variations on a theme or on a work by another composer.

Thirty-eight percent of fourth graders in the United States cannot read (Department of Education, National Center for Educational Statistics). Education is the key to success. At a young age, a child’s mind is just starting to form, and the best way to form a mind is through reading.
The question is how do we get our young children interested in reading? The answer is simple: comic Books. Comic books have a built-in, natural attraction for children. Children learn to express their feelings by studying the arts Sometimes when a young child is asked how he/she feels about a certain thing, he/she is unable to express what he feels. If the parent can ask him/her to draw a picture and explain it, the child is then able to tell how he/she feels.

Do you ever notice how hard it is to pull children away from TV and video games? They sit for hours, bone numbingly glued to TV screens learning nothing of value. Most video games and TV shows are chalk full of disrespect, violence and graphic sexual situations.

It is so important for children to take part in the arts - whether music, painting or dance. When babies learn how to hold something in their hands, it is not easy to find a toy that is perfectly safe. The toy needs to be soft, as a new baby does not yet have full control or understanding of its actions, and may hit it against its face. There are so very many life lessons that children can be exposed to by being a member of the arts community. One of those lessons is that learning in the arts requires the ability and willingness to surrender to unanticipated possibilities of the work as it unfolds. Purposes are seldom fixed, but change with circumstance and opportunity.

Kids today are constantly bombarded with displays of indecency. The internet is filled with videos depicting vandalism and assault. TV is overrun with reality shows that glamorize bad behavior and anti-social conduct.
In such an environment, it must seem impossible to instill any values at all. One of the large lessons of the arts is that there are many ways to see and interpret the world. The area of music is a perfect example of finding variations on a theme - where several composers have written their melodies based on inspiration from another work, either of their own or of another composer. On, consider artists: if ten artists painted the same still life, each painting would be different.

When I look after my daughter’s little toddler, I often need to forage for something soft and comfortable for her to wear to bed or just during the day. One of my favorite choices is a comfortable pair of leggings. Leggings are so versatile. In this day when children are encouraged to give the correct answer, the numerical answer, the precise answer, it is nice to know that another way to think is to make decisions based on qualitative relationships. In the arts, it is judgment rather than rules and precision that prevails. In music, is the song more appealing if played softer or slower? In art, is the painting more interesting if the perspective is from a distance or nearer? Red or blue tree trunks?

Being a part of the art community helps children in many ways. It greatly expands the world of feelings and knowledge far beyond what is found in the traditional learning program. One of the biggest difficulties that parents face today lies in finding something in common to share with their children. Kids today are gadget crazy and tech fluent, while most parents can still remember a time when there was no internet, when cell phones could only make phone calls and weighed a couple of pounds, and “text” was just another word for “book.”
So, what is a parent to do?
Well, one thing that worked for me, when my son was younger, was super heroes. That’s right, those gaudily garbed, ridiculously named, lantern-jawed denizens of comic books and Saturday morning cartoons, are still around and pretty much unchanged from the way we remember them from our own childhoods. More than a few have even made a successful transition to the big screen in recent years.
My son’s first introduction to super heroes was in the form of cartoons: Batman, Superman and The X-Men on Cartoon Network. When the first Tobey Maguire Spiderman movie came out, I asked him if he would like to go. We had such a blast that I took him to see The Hulk when that came out. Soon, I was watching Batman and Superman (two of my long time favorites) with him at home. One episode of Superman featured an adventure into the future, where he met a group of super-powered kids called The Legion of Super Heroes. I remarked that I had a box of their comic books stored at my mother’s house, and he said, “I’d like to check those out.” The next day we were sprawled on the floor of my old bedroom, reading them together. I ended up bringing the whole box home, and for several months, we spent time looking at them together.

The arts teach children that small differences can have large effects. Think of music - several composers have written songs that were variations on a theme - either their own theme or that of someone else. The new piece can be faster slower or varied in many ways and the feelings engendered are therefore different from the original. The painter can draw people in styles varying from flat to blue to skewed. Subtle differences are important.
Landscape paintings also can have subtle differences from the norm. Children love trees of red, blue, yellow or purple!

Feed your children the arts. Just as they need meat and vegetables, they need the arts in order to be the best they can be. For example, the arts teach them to think through a problem or situation. The author of a play must think about not only how the story will unfold, but also how it can be set on stage. The painter must decide how he will paint the scene - realistically, amusingly, or colorful, among many other possibilities.

In school, we learn words and numbers. Words teach us not only our own language, but also history and geography. Through numbers we learn math, economics, and science. We may learn of the emotions of others, but not necessarily how to express our own.

The arts teach children that in some areas, purposes change with circumstance and opportunity. Whereas the beginning dancer is learning simple heel-toe steps, in time that dancer could be learning the steps of a prima ballerina. The beginning musician is trying to master “Chopsticks” but the more mature pianist is working on a Beethoven sonata. The child draws stick people, but the mature artist paints beautiful landscapes.

The arts show us that there are many ways to see the world. In looking at a variety of paintings, people are depicted not only realistically, but sometimes as flat figures, or with elongated or oddly shaped figures, or red, green, blue or yellow in color. No matter how people are depicted, we still understand that the figure is a person.

In recent years more parents are taking an interest in purchasing organic products. I have noticed an increasing number of people at the organic markets where I regularly shop on Sunday. The market has become very busy compared to a couple of years ago and the number of stalls is growing. When a child is creating a painting, the important part is the feelings and actions of the child - not the final appearance of the painting. If you put a child in front of an easel with 3 or 4 colors of tempera paint, he might use one color, or create a very colorful, original painting! Here in Brisbane, Australia we are unusually restricted, in the middle of summer, due to unusually high rainfall and severe flooding. However many places are having, what seems from afar, to be a particularly cold winter with movement restricted due to heavy snow and ice. Having enough warm clothes changes for infants may be an ongoing problem for some.

HOW DO I GET MY KIDS TO ‘WANT’ TO GO TO BED?
A cold bed may be a contributing reason for a child not wanting to go to bed at night, even in warmer months, since many often over-cool a house with air conditioning. When getting into a cold bed, a child’s body tenses up and shivers until their own body-heat finally kicks in and warms their bed. That can take up to 30 minutes depending on how cold the house is and how small the body trying to warm up is. For children, it’s a long time.
Many parents give up the fight and fuss and begin allowing their children to cuddle up in bed with them before taking them to their own beds. This is an unhealthy habit that is hard for a child to break, not to mention bringing parents to a frazzle, who lose sleep as result.
So how can we make it inviting for our child to get into their own bed? Answer: Warm it up. A warm bed is inviting and allows a child’s body to quickly relax and fall asleep. How long has it been since you’ve set out the supplies and allowed or helped your children to paint? It only takes a small box of watercolors from the drugstore and white printer paper to keep them happy for a while.
Your children are learning to express themselves - finding out what is inside themselves. They are finding an area where they are in control, and are developing self confidence.

Being able to paint whatever he/she likes and then, no matter what, be told that it is beautiful is so empowering to a child. It gives them the power to create. When asked to paint a dog (or cat, etc,) very often a child will say, “I can’t”, but when asked to tell about the picture he just created, you might find that he/she included a dog because all the objects in the painting are important to him/her.

Most units come standard with straps to secure the baby and a removable tray. Some come with cushions while others are solid wood.
No matter how fashionable or comfortable a high chair is, the first thing a baby wants to do is get out! The birth of the Piggy Bank
For many people, it will have occurred at some point in your lifetime where you will have owned a piggy bank. Even as adults, some people retain that love of piggy banks they had as a child and continue to save a few odd coins in one.
But how did piggy banks first begin life, and why are they called by this affectionate sounding name?
The origin dates back to the 1400s, when people were regularly making pots, bowls and other receptacles out of clay. But, there was more than one different type of clay, and one of these was known by the name ‘pygg’. It was frequently used to make dishes and similar items from; purely because it was one of the cheapest materials around for this use. The clay was of an orange color, and many people kept a pygg jar, as they were called, to throw odd coins into.
As time went on, people found new methods and materials for creating these jars. But while pygg clay eventually stopped being used, the idea of having a jar with a slot for putting money into didn’t.
And, of course as we know today, the name pygg ended up transforming itself into pig. More and more of these money jars ended up being shaped as pigs, although no one seems to know quite how or why this started. It is thought that it could have been down to a simple error in the understanding of the word, seeing as they both sound the same when said aloud.
Of course, the design has changed somewhat over the years, with the original designs being made as a hollow pig with a slot for the money to go in. Today there are many designs!
There’s no doubt that the piggy bank helps play an important role in teaching young children about savings. Instilling good savings habits at a young age sets children up for their future, and encourages regular saving.
So, the next time you see your child pop some coins into their own piggy bank think back to the origins of this tradition and remember how it all started, hundreds of years ago.

Have you ever tried to purchase a toy or rattle for a baby, that you know will contain no toxins? I have tried several times to purchase non toxic baby toys
in department stores and toy shops, and I have come away empty handed. The products are nearly all made in China (even if imported from elsewhere) and there is no assurance on the product packaging that the products do not contain any toxic ingredients or toxic paint. I’m sure some would be safe but there is no way of knowing.
We know that babies love to put things in their mouth whether it is a teething toy, a rattle, a cuddly toy or just bedding and clothing. Therefore it would be nice to know for certain that what they are sucking on will not harm them in any way.

Ah, spring is in the air and so is pollen. This spring has been especially difficult for people with allergies. However, it is not always easy to distinguish between a cold and allergies. This is especially true if the child cannot talk or tell you about the symptoms. How can you tell the difference? A child with a cold will show symptoms for 3-7 days. They may have a thick nasal discharge and a low grade fever. If the child has allergies, the symptoms last for a longer time, recur the same time of year, and have no fever or achiness. The nasal discharge is thin and runny. Their eyes may be itchy and watery. Sneezing is often the first reaction to an allergen. Other things to watch for are recurrent ear infections, wheezing, and rash as these are clues that a baby may develop nasal or food allergies later on. Bright colors and whimsical designs inspire children to be creative. This is very important because creativity develops their sense of power and ownership. When they draw and paint, they produce a picture that is meaningful to themselves.
If a parent talks with a child about a painting, the painting becomes more meaningful leading to the child’s greater enjoyment. In the landscape painting “Daffodils”, a parent might ask how many different colored leaves there are, or how many clumps of flowers. Which bunch of flowers is leftmost? If you were a fox, where would you dig your hole, or which bunch of flowers would the bees like most? Which is your favorite tree? All these and more questions would increase your child’s appreciation of the painting.

ESSENTIALS FOR A DIAPER BAG
Nobody wants to end up with shoulder or back pain due to the weight of a bulging diaper bag. However, nobody wants to find that they are missing essentail supplies while out and about with baby. After raising children of my own and conferring with other Moms, here is a list of diaper bag items that were repeatedly suggested. The diaper bag needs an insulated pocket for keeping the bottle or food cool. A large changing pad to protect baby from unknown surfaces. Of course, wipes can be used for cleaning up baby or to wipe off shopping cart handles or other surfaces baby may contact. One will need two diapers per hour and rash cream for changing. Mom or Dad will need hand sanitizer for after the changing, as well. A clean outfit for baby and a plastic bag for the dirty clothes. A burp cloth is needed. Pacifier, teether or toys that can be attached to baby so they do not end up on the floor are preferred by the Moms I spoke with.
It is a good idea to have an ID tag in the bag. A first aid kit is a must especially for toddlers. A snack or bottle of water for Mom or Dad is needed depending on the length of the outing. One of the important aspects of a diaper bag is that it is ergonomically correct for comfort. One may want to consider the use of the diaper bag after baby no longer needs it. A messanger style bag or backpack with waist strap might be good for later. Dad’s Diaper Bag is a good example as it looks like it could be a laptop case. Or, for a tote style bag Mom’s Diaper Bag will fit nicely. Both bags feature many of the nessesary items discussed above.

Children love bright colors and whimsical designs. They bring out children’s creative imaginations. Most children cannot be realistic at a young age, so the whimsical designs encourage them to draw and paint at their own level. It tells them they don’t have to make their pictures look exactly like the real world.
There are often trees in landscape paintings. Spring is a good time to see trees in bloom, such as the Weeping Cherry Tree at Murphy Art Studio. As a parent you could use this as a teaching opportunity and ask your child questions like, “What is nesting in the tree? Which tree is the tallest? The shortest? Which is the lightest color?” All these questions and more will help your child think about the painting and enjoy it more.

Landscape paintings can be a source of many lessons for young children. They can learn vocabulary, number quantity, colors and many other things by looking at plein air paintings.
Regarding a painting I call Turtle Island, some of the questions parents might ask are: Where is the island? How many trees are on the island? What color is the water? Is it the same color as the sky or a different color? How many tree trunks do you see? Which are the fattest? The skinniest? What color is the grass in front of the water?
Children enjoy paintings more when they have been asked questions about them and have had time to talk about them.

Can you believe that oil paintings could be a source for teaching math? There are shapes and numbers, quantity and directions all around us that can be found in landscape paintings.
A kindergartner could be asked, “Where in the picture do you see a triangle? A square? A rectangle?” or “Is this tree larger than that one?” or “Where do you see the rectangle? Is it at the top, bottom, left or right side?” All these questions lead to the developing math skills of early childhood.

I’ve only recently heard of colour grown cotton. It is such a great thing, and I can’t believe I haven’t heard of it before.
For anyone, like me, who doesn’t know what it is here’s a brief description.
It was originally used for thousands of years by native american indians to create different colours without the need for dying. Cotton plants can be found in a variety of different colours such as: white, tan, green, yellow, red, and brown. These are naturally occuring colours that cotton grows as, however, because the cotton fibres didn’t suit commercial textile machines, white cotton has been the only one used.
Thankfully, colour grown is being used again, which is wonderful news for people with allergies and sensitivities to dyes.

Why Organic Baby Clothing
I have heard the comment, that there is no need for organic clothing, as once it is washed, the chemicals will be removed. Now, many chemicals may be removed by washing, but some such as formaldehyde are chemically bonded to the fabric. It is almost impossible to completely remove formaldehyde from clothing and it is very commonly used in all sorts of clothing; not only formaldehyde but also other toxic chemicals.
I have purchased items to wear, where I have not been able to get rid of the smell after repeated washings and leaving out in the sun for days. Some stockings are particularly bad, but also some clothing items. I have to discard these as I am allergic to chemical odors.
Many toxins used in the cotton growing process may be removed during the fabric manufacturing process, but many more chemicals and toxins are added back during the dyeing process and garment making, to give the products special properties - eg anti-bacterial, anti-static, wrinkle-free etc. Many of these are dangerous to our health. So organic manufacturing of clothing is important for our health, and especially for the health of a young child.
Organic manufacturing uses natural chemicals in the dyeing process. If imported or transported any distance, organic clothes may have been sprayed during the transport process. So it is still a good idea to wash before wearing for the first time. These added chemicals, if present, will wash out. You know just by walking through a perfumed area or where someone is smoking, how easily our clothes can absorb smells from the air.
Another very important reason for buying organic clothes is to support sustainable farming methods and help protect the environment, by taking a positive stand against pesticides, herbicides and dioxins.

SOME BABY PRODUCTS YOU MUST HAVE
First time parents can be overwhelmed with the choices of products for baby. Here are some products that are truely useful and necessary. A bulb syringe and nail clippers are an absolute necessity. The bulb syringe will be used for extracting mucus during colds or for irrigating ears. The nail clippers, with built up handle for easier use, will be used to keep the baby from scratching themselves with fingernails.
To help sooth a crying baby due to colic or other distress, a baby swing is a great help. The swing with changing seat positions is good to keep the baby in line with development. The newborn will need to recline until a seated position can be achieved. Generations of mothers have also used baby slings to keep the baby soothed and close. It allows a busy Mom or Dad to have both hands free while still snuggling with the child. Another calming device for a fussy infant is a swaddling pouch. You can swaddle the baby in a blanket, but if you have not mastered the technique of tighly wrapping, you may pruchase a pouch to slip the child into and fasten the “wings” with the hook and loop closures.

The history of the children’s play horse can be traced back as far as ancient Greek times although these bore little resemblance to the rocking horses we are familiar with today. In the middle Ages it was common for children to play act jousting tournaments and wheeled wooden horses were often crafted for this purpose.
Over the years rocking horses have evolved from simple and crude designs to the lifelike, sophisticated and ornate creations that we know today.
In the late eighteenth and nineteenth centuries it became common to finish the horses by painting and traditionally they would be high gloss white with black spots or dappled grey. Although the type of finish achieved was very tactile and durable it was a very labor intensive process which involved a lot of sanding down and applying multiple coats of paint and lacquer.

Staying around the house for the first week of potty training your toddler can be helpful but you may not find this possible. Your child’s bladder control is not likely to very good when they first commences potty training and when they indicate that they need to “go potty” they will mean IMMEDIATELY.
For the first few weeks you will have to organize your life around potty training. This is not difficult if you plan and think well ahead. Make a note of any regular times that your toddler uses the bathroom and includes these in anything you plan.

Sleep Safety for Infants
Bringing a baby home is an exciting time for a family that may turn to sudden tragedy if some simple guidlilnes are not followed. Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is the leading cause of death in babies one month to one year of age (usually under 6 months of age). The risk of SIDS can be greatly reduced by placing the baby on her back for sleeping - both at night and for naps. The sleeping area should be a firm surface with no soft, fluffy, and loose bedding, pillows, and stuffed toys in the area. Make sure that everyone who may care for your baby is aware of the back lying position and safety measures to take. Dress your baby in sleepers that will keep her warm without blankets while she sleeps. If you do use a blanket, be sure the baby has her feet all the way down to the foot of the bed. The blanket should be no higher than chest level and the ends tucked under the mattress. Bed-sharing with others is unsafe for baby. It increases the risk of SIDS and suffocation.
Pacifiers have been shown to help reduce the risk of SIDS. If you are breastfeeding, wait until one month of age so the breastfeeding is well established before offering the pacifier. Pacifiers should not be forced upon the baby, and should not be dipped in any sweet ingredient. There is no need to reisert the pacifier if it falls out while baby sleeps. Pacifiers may be discontinued after one year of age. The risk of SIDS is past then and the need for sucking is greatest from 1-5 months so the non-nutritious sucking stage is past for most babies.

Infants and Fever
Fever is a common concern for new parents and their infant’s health. What is a fever and how do you manage it? The average normal body temperature is 98.6 degrees. When body temperature gets to 100 degrees or higher it is considered a fever. There can be several reasons a baby may have a fever. Infections, heat exhaustion, strenuous exercise (struggling or crying) are examples of a cause for a fever. Some ways to treat a fever are to avoid bundling in blankets as that will only cause the fever to go higher, you may sponge the child with tepid water and encourage the drinking of water. Covered ice packs may be placed behind the neck, on the groin, or under the arms. Seizures may occur with a fever especially if the baby is 6 months or up to 5 years of age. If the child convulses, lay him on the floor on his side and make sure no objects are in his mouth or close enough on the floor where he may hit them. If the convulsing lasts for more than 8-10 min. call for medical assistance. If an infant has a fever of 101 degrees or higher, or if an older child has a fever for two days, call your doctor.

Kids’ Runny Nose
We are in the back to school mode and fall is fast approaching. That means many babies and children will have runny noses. According to the CDC (Center for Disease Control) the best thing to do is to wait and watch your child. Be sure they get plenty of fluids (water) and sleep. Some people find that using a vaporizer may ease the discomfort. The CDC does not recommend antibiotics unless your healthcare provider tells you that your child has sinusitis. If you give your child antibiotics when not needed, the germs can become resistant to the effects of the medicine.

We have reached the “dog days of summer”. It is especially important to protect your child from heat exhaustion. Child Development Relies on Interaction with Adults
The size of a child’s brain triples in size between birth and 2 years. Dimitri Christakis, director for the Center for Child Health, Behavior and Development at Seattle’s Children Research Institute, recently published a study that contends that interaction is key for a baby’s brain and language development. If a child is placed in front of “the electronic babysitter” (the TV). There is a decrease in the number and length of child vocalizations and the back and forth of human conversation. With 30% of households having the television on all at all times, the decrease in verbal interaction was significantly lowered.

A recent study published in “Social Science Quarterly” by David Kalist lists the top 10 names of boys that are more likely to lead to delinquent acts. The university professor studied 15,000 names between 1987-1991 and found the more unlikely the name, the more likely the problems.
