What’s The Best Air Purifier For Pets?
What’s the best air purifier for dogs, cats, or other pets? That depends on several factors—what type of pet, what types / sources of pet odors (feces, urine, general pet odor), how many pets, how large the pet area is, your budget, and other factors like how severe the odor or allergies are, etc.
Interestingly, many pet odors and human allergies have a common cause: dander. What is dander? Pet dander is composed of dead skin cells, oils/particles from the animal’s skin, small fecal particles, bacteria, bits of hair / fur, saliva, etc. When this dander becomes airborne, by itself or mixed with dust, we often sense odor in the pet’s area, and if we have allergies, start sneezing or have some other allergic reaction. Odor, of course, also comes from a dog’s, cat’s, or other animal’s urine or feces. And as hard as we clean, sometimes that odor lingers.
So which air purifier is really the best for eliminating odor from dogs and cats, and airborne dander / dust particles? The bottom line in choosing the best air purifier for pets is to get the one that has the features that best suit your personal situation. Here are some tips: 1) If the main issue is allergies from breathing in dander / dust / particles, make sure the air purifier has a true HEPA filter. 2) If pet odors are the issue, look for activated carbon or charcoal, and the more the better as this carbon traps the tiny, airborne organic molecules that come from pet dander, skin oils, urine, etc. Those elements are what our noses detect as the ‘odor’. 3) Get an air purifier that covers the amount of area where the animal lives / moves. If the dog, cat or other animal is in an enclosed space, you’ll need a smaller air purifier than if the dogs / cats runs freely in the home. Just look at the total square footage of where the animal can roam and compare to the listed coverage of the air purifier (most will show this in the technical specifications).
And if you can get it, choose an air purifier with healthy negative OH- ions, not ozone, is also helpful, as these ions cause particles to fall out of the air before we breathe them, and they kill airborne bacteria / viruses. Dogs love to play and search for critters and bark at the neighbors and go for car rides. Some high-energy dogs could do this for hours. But eventually they all need to relax. They get pooped, just like their humans.

Your dog needs a lair. Dogs come from wolves who need safe places to hide out in or just to rest. This need for a special place is in their blood. Now, it doesn’t need to be a cave or some underground dwelling. Your pooch could hang out in your closet or under your bed or under your desk. But those are really your spots.

Your dog wants to get up on the bed, but he can’t jump that high. He wants to get on the sofa. Too high. What about his favorite family room chair? Can’t make it. His favorite places are too high.

Dog Safety Tips For The Holidays
During this Holiday period it is more important than ever to keep your dog in a safe place so it is unable to partake of the human goodies left out for visitors. Here are some examples of the dangers for your pet that are lurking in your house.
Grapes and Raisins can cause irreversible damage to the kidneys, possible resulting in death. Ingesting as few as 4-5 grapes or raisins can be poisonous to a 20 pound dog, though the exact toxic dose is not established.
Onions can cause a form of hemolytic anemia called Heinz body anemia, a condition that causes the destruction of red blood cells. Kidney damage may follow.
Chocolate and cocoa contain a chemical called Theo bromine that can adversely affect the heart, lungs, kidney and central nervous system. Pure baking chocolate is most toxic, while milk chocolate requires a higher quantity to cause harm. A 20 pound dog can be poisoned after consuming about 2 ounces of baking chocolate, but it would take nearly 20 ounces of milk chocolate to cause harm. Of course small or medium size dogs need less to make them very seriously ill.
For safety reasons confining your best friend in a carrier or cage while you are not home or busy elsewhere in the house. This is the best Christmas Gift you can give your pet. Finally, it’s raining. It has been two months since we had any significant rain. Sometimes, several days of rain can be depressing, but not this much-needed rain. What a glorious site to behold! It has everyone cheerful and makes you want to be around bright cheery things. The same is true of clothing. Bright colors are the best for me. It’s always nice to dress my dog is bright colors, as well, but we must be careful since she has a weight problem.
Cookie is a loving Chihuahua who has eaten diet dog food since she was a puppy. What do you do when siblings bicker? Looking back on my childhood with my siblings, it seems there were often disagreements in our household. Having a wise mother, she found some unique ways to settle the arguments. Now the only siblings living in my home are my three Chihuahuas. They all have very different personalities. Carlie and Carlos are true siblings and Carlie is a bully. She’s cute as a button, but picks on little Carlos something fierce. He rarely takes up for himself and just looks pitifully at me like “please do something”. Scolding stops it for a few minutes, and then she’s back at it.
I decided a couple of days ago that armor was a good solution for protection. As kids, we’d use our play shields or put on a helmet. Well, it seems like a good idea to provide Carlos with some protection. He needs a dog hat to protect those poor ears Carlie is always biting, so it definitely became time to shop. The first decision was a type of hat and then a good quality to last without paying too much. The solution is here, a military-style dog “Boonie” hat, available in jungle camouflage. Dog First Aid Kits
Through out history mankind has tamed and bred dogs to be loyal companions. Over the years many different breeds have been developed to do different job such as herding, police work, hunting, guardians and the faithful family companion. The relationship between a person and their dog is special and they have earned a place in our hearts and we have made them a part of our family home. But dogs, just like children can have medical problems and emergencies that need urgent care and actions on your part.
Imagine being in the outdoors with your dog and whether you are at a dog park, hiking, hunting or just playing in your yard, would you know what to do if you encountered an emergency in these situations? Felix and I had slipped into a comfortable lazy routine. Yes we walked more like strolled every morning and evening but I could see Felix was losing some of his muscle tone dog fitness, me too!

Dogs have masters, Cats have servants!
I can’t help myself I love to watch and enjoy the antics of my four (4) cats. I currently have two 6 year old short haired all black male cats with very different personalities. Bentley is very shy, affectionate and runs to a safe place when visitors arrive. Baxter his brother is always ready for company. When the doorbell rings Baxter runs to the door to await the affection of his visitor, strangers are welcome in Baxter’s house. He loves to meet new people and shower them with affection. If the visitor were to pick him up he puts a paw on each of their shoulders and proceeds to rub his cheeks on the visitors face while purring up a storm. No other explanation, he just loves people.
Is Baxter the only affectionate cat?

Poisons in your House and Gardens

Agility is a exciting sport for both owners and dogs.
Dogs have lots more energy than most owners or handlers. I often hear pet owners complain that their dog or cat is destructive. More times than not it is a single pet in that household. Adults are away at work, kids are at school and this energetic, curious pet is left at home alone to amuse themselves. Now how they do that determines whether they are “Good Doggy” or “Bad Doggy”. Sometimes they are destructive other times just curious but their activity is not what their owners wanted. They are animals for goodness sake! Many people either have themselves, or know someone who has, grieved deeply over the loss of a beloved pet. Our hearts can ache for a pet just as they would for any other member of our family. We question within ourselves: Will I see my pet in heaven; do animals GO to heaven? While we may have an interior feeling or personal belief that we will indeed be reunited one day with our beloved tabby cat or curly-haired dog, some of us want or need a more concrete basis to support that interior feeling or belief, something that comes from outside and beyond ourselves.
For anyone grieving the loss of a furry friend, I would like to recommend a beautiful little book by Franciscan Friar Jack Wintz, currently senior editor of the St. Anthony Messenger magazine. Pet Beds
Cats and dogs love to cuddle up with us and sleep on our beds while we are trying to get a good night’s sleep. They love us too and want to be close to us but we need undisturbed sleep for our bodies to regenerate. I love to spoil my pets and what better way then to give them food they love and save money while doing it.
I started feeding my fish and reptiles live worms, they just love this live food and it is nutritious for them also. There are the smaller size red worms these are good for small fish, frogs and toads. The larger European night crawlers are good for larger size fish and lizards. I have also frozen the worms and sliced off slivers to feed fish fry.

You can raise your own live fish food while doing a service to our environment.
The method creates little or no odor, requires so little space that it is even used by many small-apartment dwellers. What’s more, those who keep tropical fish have discovered that they can feed the worms to their fish!
The worms used for composting and fish food are not the large earthworms that come out at night on wet lawns. Large fish like oscars, large angels, discus, african cichlids, and lots of others can eat these worms whole.

Most commercial diets are not well-suited to the dog’s and cat’s physical make up and metabolism. They are not “biologically appropriate because they are made up of grain products.
Canine nutritionists explain that dogs do not process complex carbohydrates (grains) well. Studies demonstrate that unlike humans, dogs do not “carboload”, that is store up energy from meals high in complex carbohydrates. It results in an accumulation of lactic acid in dogs which causes muscular pain experienced after unaccustomed exercise).
Grains convert to sugars making it NOT a good source of protein for our pets.
Our pets need a good source meat for their protein. This will help avoid yeast infections in the ears or on the skin, ear infections, head shaking, allergies, skin irritation, itchy feet and genitals. Other symptons of grains and yeast infections may be as broad ranging as malabsorption of food nutrients, joint problems, arthritis, diabetes, colitis and kidney or bladder infections.
