I just returned to Florida from Minnesota and found my beautiful backyard pond wasn’t so beautiful. It had algae growing and was pretty green. I’m glad I discovered GreenClean. Bird watching is a popular hobby among many senior citizens. Something about watching the frenetic movements of those feathered creatures is so satisfying. My grandmother is one of those avid birdwatchers. She used to get up early every morning in order to sit by the kitchen window to watch the finches and blue jays that frequented her backyard feeders.

To maintain your pond you should put in some kind of aeration to maintain circulation throughout the year. Pumps are a great way to do this. They improve decomposition of weeds and help to maintain an even temperature.

Birds use calls to warn of other birds or predators. Indivual birds seem to be ble to identify each other through their calls.

Good Morning from snowy Northern, IN.! I’m sitting here with my first cup of coffee. My grandchildren were over the other day and we were watching birds and squirrels out in the yard. We thought it would be fun if we could get a closer view of them. I went online and found a site that has Hawk Eye cameras. I was looking for an eco-friendly algaecide for my pond. I was trying to find an algaecide that would be environmentally friendly and not harm wildlife, my pets or the koi fish in my pond. I found GreenClean at http://www.green.43.com.

Good Morning from LaGrange, IN.A nice addition too you’re outdoor décor would be a set of Large Wind Chimes that sound delightful to the ears, because the wind is the composer of the harmonics or disharmonies that are produced when they are moved. The wind chimes that sound the best are the ones that are based on music, chords and the science of matching musical tones.
You can also buy Large Windchimes that are tuned to different tonal scales. One harmonic scale that is quite common is what is called the pentatonic scale, which is a scale of major notes that was first used in chimes in ancient Greece. You can also fine this type of scale in soprano, tenor, alto and bass versions. Usually the larger the tube is the deeper the sound of the chime will be if it is hit by something.
Yet another interesting tonal scale for Wind Chimes is the Mongolian scale, which consists all of lower tenor notes and bass notes. Although they have very little to do with Christianity they very much like church bells when they strike each other. The important thing to remember about Wind Chimes is that they must be placed somewhere where they will receive a bit of a breeze or they will not make any beautiful music at all.

Fall Pond Maintenance
Fall is when you need to clean up and around your pond and prep it for winter. During the fall ponds can be covered with leaves, pine needles and other debris, all of which can cause problems in your pond.
If you have fish in your pond, you will be able to reduce the amount of food as temps fall. Water temperature affects a fish’s metabolic rate and as the water cools, their metabolism slows. If fish are fed to much you will create excess waste and bottom sludge or even worse you could kill them.

Pond supplies used to maintain a water garden are very similar to those used to maintain koi ponds. As in a koi pond, beneficial bacterial should be used on a regular basis.
While there may not be a fish food or fish waste to breakdown, there is still debris and other organic waste that can enter the pond that bacterial can and will break down.

Hello from Bloomington MN. Pond pumps are used to move and circulate water in your pond. Pond pumps are needed to run filters, supply water to waterfalls and to power your fountains. Depending on the size of your pond, you will need an external or submersible pump.
If you have never purchased a pond pump before, you will need to know the gallons of water your pond holds. You can use our POND CALCULATOR to help you figure it out. Once you know the volume of your pond, you will want to select a pump that circulates water at least once an hour. So if your pond is 2000 gallons, you will need a pump with at least 2000 GPH (gallons per hour) rating. In this case, bigger is always better. http://www.green43.com

Hello from Bloomington, MN. Koi ponds and backyard fish ponds are two ponds that require a lot of maintenance and pool products to keep them clean. If you have spent hundreds of dollars on koi fish or fancy goldfish, you will want to be sure to keep them healthy.
Your pond should already be equipped with proper filtration equipment and pond areation to keep the waste and debris cleaned out and oxygen levels steady.

Winter dormancy period is important for Outdoor Bonsai TreesOutdoor Bonsai Trees. “But my plant is an evergreen; it doesn’t drop its leaves so it’s not going dormant.” The fact that it is an evergreen plant makes the dormant period even more crucial. While deciduous plants get a total rest, dropping all their leaves allows the tree to send all its sugars to the roots where they are stored evergreens do not get the winter entirely off. They must continue to photosynthesize and respirate as they always do, just at a much lower level than in the growing season. When you force that potted juniper (the most common bonsai is the Japanese juniper) to grow through the winter, it gets tired.
Giving your plants the rest they need.
So what can you do to give your plants the rest they need? If you are in a milder part of the country, and hard freezes are a rarity, simply leaving the plants out of doors will work. Remember not all plants go dormant, so any tropical bonsais in the your collection should still stay inside unless you live in the tropics (Florida or Hawaii). In some areas the Outdoor Bonsai can be planted in the ground and allowed to freeze with the other trees and shrubs in the area. This is not recommended for the extreme cold parts of the US. Study a bonsai bookfor the correct way of handling dormancy in your area.

When buying your first Bonsai, your initial problem will be to decide whether to buy a tree for an ‘Indoor’ or ‘Outdoor’ environment. Remember one important point, there is no such thing as a truly indoor plant. The reason that some trees are described as Indoor Bonsai is only to show that they originate from a (usually) semi-tropical part of the world, and will not tolerate temperatures generally below 12 centigrade (50 degrees), hence the need for them to be kept in a warm place. If you are in any doubt as to a tree’s suitability for the environment you have in mind, be sure to ask the person selling the tree what conditions are appropriate. Other problems that you will encounter when caring for a bonsai will be how much light, how water water, and when to fertlize. There are some excellent bonsai books avaliable to give you the necessary information.

This is a great time of year to really enjoy the outdoors. You can enjoy all the colors of fall, and all the wonders of nature. This is a great time to add a bird feeder to your yard.
