62. It has long been known that exercise is beneficial for those with arthritis. The resultant pain, discomfort and/or weakness may necessitate the use of supporting items such as canes, walkers or other hardware. Many treatments have been proposed to build up the cartilage. There has even been attempts at cartilage transplants. The long term effect may be the need for surgical intervention. This may range from arthroscopic procedures to actual joint replacements. Unfortunately, the results are often less than desired with permanent degrees of debility. The use of canes and walkers and even wheelchairs may become a lifelong necessity to facilitate support and movement.
