Traditions ………..
A tradition, which began in Europe, saw the wedding band being engraved with the name and date of the nuptials on the inside flat surface. It was felt that this strengthened the symbolism and sentimentality of the ring as it became a family heirloom.
In recent years, the practice of the giving of rings has expanded to include the Eternity Ring which can symbolize the renewal of the marriage vows; or, is sometimes given after the birth of the first child. The Trilogy Ring which usually has three brilliant-cut round diamonds to represent the past, present and future of the relationship is also finding favour of late.
Historically, the wedding ring was considered to be connected to the exchange of valuables rather than a symbol of love and devotion. In that time of history, a marriage was considered a contract between two families; rather than two individuals. Therefore, besides the ring, there would be other property exchanged. At a German wedding of long ago, the amount of property to be given to the bride’s family would even be mentioned in the wedding vows.

Should you buy 14k or 18k Wedding Bands? The gold carats normally used in wedding bands are either 14k or 18k. The higher the proportion of gold used in the final metal, the more valuable and expensive the metal will be. So, all other things being equal, an 18k band will be more expensive than a 14k band. Many people consider the hardness and durability of gold when choosing a wedding band. Metal hardness is measured by what is called the Vickers scale where harder metals receive a higher Vickers score than less hard metals. 14k has a Vickers hardness of 123 and 18k has a Vickers hardness of 125. Both 14k and 18k gold are relatively hard and durable metals and are suitable for every day wear as Fancy Wedding Bands. The 18k gold band tends to age better than the 14k. This is one of the reasons why 18k is normally preferred for wedding bands, if the budget allows.

When I shop, especially on line, I look for gimmics. My favorite in the site that says “Free Shipping”. You click the shipping button and find it’s only free on large minimum orders. At our site all of our shipping is free, no matter how much you order. At this time of year that’s really important.
My next favorite gimmic is the “sale” gimmic. The regular price is some exhorbitant amount that anyone who comparision shops realizes is way out of line. We’ve all seen it. New Twist on Bangles
When we are getting ready to go out for the evening we all want that something different, something new to wear. You don’t want to show up and have on what someone else has on. That has probably happened to some of us and nobody wants to repeat that again. You want to stand out and have your own style maybe even start a new look. Try a new twist with using bangles worked with a black cord. Take a long black necklace cord about 72″ and a silver bangle and loop the bangle around the cord half way down the cord. Go up one side of the cord about 10″ and tie another bangle around the cord and on the other side tie around bangle but up or down from the other side so all three bangles will lay at different levels. Now tie the cord around your neck and adjust the length either up or down to have the longest bangle hang above your waist. If you are looking for a softer look add 72″ freshwater , pearl necklace and loop it around your neck a couple of twice. Have the first strand above the bangles closer to your neck and the other hang below the first or second bangle. For a more edgy look add a silver chain that has some weight instead of the pearls. Make this your look by adding what you like. Change this look out by using an a different color cord, different bangles and add a layer of beads. Wear the jewelry and don’ t let the jewelry wear you. Caring for Fine Jewelry
We all have favorite pieces of jewelry that we cherish, maybe we inherited it or received it as a gift. It is very upsetting for any one of us to look at a diamond ring and realize that somehow a diamond has fallen out. On a regular basis check your jewelry to make sure all the stones are secure. If any stone is lose and you can move it in any way please don’t wear it. Put it aside until you are able to have the prongs tighen. Don’t risk wearing a diamond ring or other fine jewelry pieces that mean so much to you.
Clean your jewelry and you will be surprised how beautiful it looks. Simple easy way to do this is, close the drain in your sink, add a few drops of a mild dish detergent to warm water in a small dish and brush the jewelry piece with a soft toothbrush. Rinse and dry with a link free cloth. Another little quick tip is to “huff” on the diamond with your breath which will fog up and then wipe it with a lint free cloth. This will remove oil that has built up on the diamond. When slipping on your rings, hold the sides of the ring and try to avoid touching the diamond. Oil from your own skin will dull stones and reduce the sparkle. Never remove your rings to wash your hands while away from home. We are constantly bombarded with what we should do that would make us ‘popular’ or ‘easier to get along with’, but truth be told unless we are ourselves everything else is a sham. Today more of our Troops shipped out for Afghanistan, and that means more Families Are Also Serving. Troops are in the field and Families are at home. Aren’t there always the days that you feel no matter what you do that you are going to lose? When we are talking about weight that’s great, anything else, well, really it kinda sucks. So what can we do in order to feel better about ourselves and more positive towards life on those days?

When we set our minds for positive change we must first make an inventory of our beliefs and values. After this has been accomplished, we can then go through each and figure out why we have those beliefs and values. Are they really ours or have we just taken the easy way and just adopted someone else’s belief system?
It is very important at this point to be as honest as we can possibly be with ourselves in order to get to the root of what we deem as our challenges. We all have a core belief, be it negative or positive, that we live our life by. It is this belief that we make our decisions on.
When we have set our mind to make these changes it can make things a little easier if we have a reminder for change. This is something tangible that we can hold and touch. It can be something small, such as keychains, or something worn, such as bracelets. Whatever we choose as a reminder will help to keep us on track.

Carat Weight
Diamonds are sold by the carat (ct) weighing 200 milligrams or 1/5 of a gram. One carat diamond is 100 points. A diamond of 25 points is described as a quarter of a carat or 0.25 carat, 50 points would be .50 carat or ½ carat, and ¾ carat in weight is 0.75 carat. The carat is the weight of the diamond and not the size of the diamond. The size of one carat diamond will be determined by the cut of the diamond. Put another way, an emerald cut one carat diamond, will be a different size than a one carat round diamond but both diamonds will still weigh one carat or 1/5 of a gram.
A two carat diamond ring with the same quality of a one carat diamond is more than twice the cost of a one carat diamond. It could be as much as 3 times the cost. The larger size diamonds are more rare and harder to find which is why they are more expensive. Likewise if you go to a three carat diamond it will be much more than three twice the price of a one carat diamond for the same reason.
