Asked to define “drama” the average teenager on the street might well answer that it is a rather fake sort of behavior in which people exaggerate beyond justification the emotions they are feeling! In a high school English literature class, on the other hand, one might answer that “drama” is a work of either prose or poetry which depicts action and dialogue the author intends to be performed by actors on a stage before an audience. All dramas, no matter of what type, genre or style, fall into two basic categories: Comedy (the kind with happy endings) and Tragedy (the kind with sad endings). This art form has been a part of our lives in every human culture for thousands of years and can have a surprisingly strong influence upon the formation of our attitudes toward real-life events and situations! Too many folks today mostly know “drama” through the medium of TV and film. How can you find out if what you are about to watch, or have been watching, on TV or at the movies is “good” drama? What deserves to be called classic drama? What does not? How can you come to know the elements of “good” drama, “good” comedy, “good” tragedy? Are there guides to that sort of thing?

Christian drama has been a strong cultural force since medieval times. Townspeople often gathered on the major feast days of Christmas and Easter to view plays based on great Christian themes such as the life of Christ and other holy men and women. Whole families -- men, women, teens and children -- made up the audiences, and all took great interest in what was being shown to them. Many good books have been written about Christian-themed drama. Great playwrights such as Shakespeare have used these themes and lessons from Christian and Catholic life to build truly classic dramas that long outlast the cultural circumstance within which they were crafted; still entertaining, still teaching individuals and audiences hundreds of years later. Many teachers and scholars have devoted much time to explaining the different genres of classic drama to the reading public. Excellent editions with critical introductions and notes to ancient, medieval and modern plays and literary classics are a great way to learn about and to build a better appreciation for and knowledge about good drama.

Whether you are simply interested in reading good drama on your own, in honing your personal acting skills by performing plays with friends, or in learning what the elements of a great classic such as one of Shakespeare’s plays might be, you will find only the very best sources for these purposes at http://www.thechristianbookcorner.com . Our online bookstore provides the finest available books on such subjects at handsome everyday discounts, relying on the most reputable suppliers of Christian critical editions of classic drama and scholarly works about drama for the interested reader.
There is always a need for the companionship of a good book to help in the spiritual journey. The religious life of any believing Christian needs reinforcing, guidance and the deepening of interior growth in aliveness that can come through spiritual reading. Reading the best writings of acclaimed saints and other famous Christian men and women is not only inspirational and uplifting but a good and valid way of enriching prayer, strengthening one’s will, and learning of, then adopting, invaluable spiritual exercises. What is crucial in all this is to form one’s spiritual mind and will through reading the best Catholic and Christian thinkers down through the ages. In this way, as you continue along the pilgrim path every Christian must walk, you can be sure you are in the best of company and that your spiritual life and religious practices and studies are thoroughly orthodox and beneficial.

Good Christian and Catholic religious books, orthodox spiritual books for religious study and reflection to enhance religious education or deepen devotion and discipline may not seem readily available. Oh, the chain bookstores do have sections in their stores labeled Religion or Spirituality, but more often than not what one is confronted with there are a slew of books written by self-proclaimed adepts and gurus. Searching through these for books which will satisfy your desire to read the best Catholic and Christian spiritual and religious classics -- books on the great saints, the lives of famous Christian men and women, or historical and philosophical theologically orthodox religious studies – is not apt to be fruitful.

The Christian Book Corner (http://www.t-cbc.com) exists online to provide the interested reader with access to the very best, top quality books and other media available in the specialized field of Christian and Catholic non-fiction and literature, at truly affordable prices. If you are looking for top quality religious and spiritual books for yourself or as a gift for family, friends or children make it a point to begin your search here, where everything you will see has been “Chosen with care; chosen with Prayer.”

Good fiction, good Christian fiction, good Christian historical fiction whether to read on your own or to give as a gift to a relative, friend or some bright child or children you know, can be a hard thing to find. Checking best seller lists to find a good historical novel will often lead you down a dark path to a dead end… Best seller lists are no reliable indicators of the quality of what is on them, and good novels are often not best sellers, especially good historical novels and most especially good Christian or Catholic historical novels. Too often one will walk into a mega book store, get lost in the stacks, look for help in just finding the historical fiction section, and in the end still walk away unsatisfied. Then there are the times when you will just settle for something you hope from its cover is the best piece of historical fiction, good Christian or Catholic fiction, that you could find, open it and put it gently down after ten pages, unreadable and unsatisfying.

There are classics of good fiction that are genuinely Christian and Catholic in their plot, telling and characters. It is often the case that they are not labeled as such. Though never advertised that way, a novel such as “The Cypresses Believe In God” is reliably Christian, faithfully Catholic in its treatment of the Spanish Civil War and a classic of modern historical fiction. Online Christian and Catholic bookstores provide a unique and perfect solution to the problem of locating, identifying and purchasing the best Christian and Catholic fiction of all types, especially historical fiction. New American Christian and Catholic authors writing good novels in the historical genre, including graphic novels, a relatively new form, are readily available online, and often at substantial discounts and savings from online bookstores.

Visit us at http://www.thechristianbookcorner.com. As an online store concentrating in Christian and Catholic books we strive to offer the best possible selection of Christian and Catholic historical novels, to provide the best in “top 10” quality historical fiction from a thoroughly and reliably Christian and Catholic viewpoint. All of our daily growing selection of products offered at deep everyday discounts are personally “Chosen with care; chosen with Prayer” from only the most reputable Catholic and Christian suppliers.

How odd it may seem that children are easily attracted by rhyme and rhythm and the sounds of words, those things that make up the building blocks of poems. Children love to hear, over and over, nursery rhymes; easily learning them on their own from an early age so that they remember them into their very old age. But mention poetry to an adult and the vast majority will wrinkle their nose at the thought of actually reading one poem, let alone owning a book full of them. It is a sin against the culture that we have grown so unaccustomed to the beauties and the truths in poetry, beauties and truths ever ancient, ever new… The best poems should be like icons for us leading us beyond this material world to a world more true and lasting -- and reading them, living with them, should be a kind of liturgy, a work of love and service to the larger Truth they point to.

In “Mysteries and Stations in the Manner of Ignatius”, the poet Pavel Chichikov presents us with a series of poetic meditations on the great Catholic prayer of the Rosary whose “Mysteries” are themselves meant to bring the faithful believer into a closer relation with the life of Christ, and also a series of meditations on the Stations of the Cross, reflections on various points in Christ’s Passion, Death and Resurrection, the most important of all Christian “Mysteries”. Pavel’s is a book for all Christians, not only Catholics, but Orthodox and others who believe in Christ and His saving acts. Religious poems have long held an important place in Christian art, supporting the prayer life and the liturgy of Christians from the very beginning, from our ecclesial adoption of the prose and poetry of the Bible up until the present day. Inspirational, mystical, religious poetry has characterized and enhanced the liturgy of all Christian churches, Roman, Byzantine, Eastern, Western, Catholic and Protestant, ancient and modern. “Mysteries and Stations” is firmly rooted in this tradition, a tradition that brings forth a luminous iconography of redemption for the reader. This work of Pavel Chichikov’s aptly illustrates the eye for vivid imagery and ear for a telling phrase that meet here in verse as much to be prayed as to be read.

The Christian Book Corner happily offers for your consideration this and other fine books of poetry from Kaufman Publishing, one of our most recent suppliers of fine Christian books “Chosen with care; chosen with Prayer”.
The Bible tells us that all of creation is God’s alphabet, and that He uses all of creation to write messages to us through His works and their wonders. Children are especially open to wonders and the messages they bring, ever ready to be impressed with what God has done for us and what God gives to us, to learn His alphabet, to hear and to read the stories in God’s great message book, the Bible. As parents and grandparents, aunts and uncles, brothers and sisters, religion teachers, neighbors, and family friends, we cannot begin too soon to deepen our youngest relatives’ and friends’ experiences of the world by giving them “the rest of the picture” -- the story of God’s particular interaction with His sons and daughters here on earth, the children for whom He made all this, the children with whom He wants to enter into friendship.

“God’s Alphabet Book” by Brenda and Tony Eubanks is a great way to open the eyes of the very early listening and reading child to their own uniqueness and the love God has for them. The imaginative, full-color illustrations and accompanying biblical rhymes use Bible stories and biblical characters to guide children through the alphabet, making the Bible and God’s history with mankind the beginning of a child’s introduction to the written word. “God’s Alphabet Book” makes a wonderful baptism, birthday or Easter gift for youngsters, one that will be especially cherished by their parents!

As the world becomes more and more empty of a sense of the sacred, Christian and Catholic families are faced with a continuing problem and challenge most especially at those times traditionally set aside for the celebration of important events in the life of Jesus and thus in the faith of every Christian, whether adult or child -- the problem of keeping and handing on “the deposit of faith.” Both Lent, that time of preparation and penance leading up to Easter, and Easter, the joyous feast of Jesus’s Resurrection, are, like Christmas, becoming increasingly secularized, emptied of their deep Christian symbolism, rendered mere occasions for cartoons for kids and televised athletic contests for adults. Aside from Mardi Gras, observance of Lent has ceased to exist in the modern world. Aside from Easter baskets, coloring eggs, and eating chocolate bunnies, little of Easter is present in the outside world to distinguish it from any other day.

Christian children, adults and families need to discover and foster a deeper understanding of the rich tradition of prayer, the ancient symbols, activities, and central meaning of the forty-day long season of Lent, and the succeeding seven week long Feast of Easter. The only place such a fostering and growth of knowledge about Easter and Lent can really occur is within the home, within the “Domestic Church” as ancient tradition names and defines the family in its particular role as the first place where Christian faith is learned and practiced. It is here that the rituals, practices, history, meaning and truths of such times as Lent and Easter must be learned and most lovingly nurtured. Jesus learned from His parents, so what could be more natural than that Christian parents communicate faith to their children, celebrating as well as teaching that faith at home throughout the year? Within the sanctity of their home, the Domestic Church, a.k.a. the Christian/Catholic family, is perfectly positioned to teach and to experience the riches of faith, the joy of its practices and the wonder of its seasons and feasts.

A most useful and rich aid in the family’s work is ”Lent and Easter in the Domestic Church” a book filled with ideas for crafts and activities to aid in observing and celebrating the beautiful seasons and feasts of Lent and Easter. ”Lent and Easter in the Domestic Church” contains variety of family activities, saint’s celebrations and crafts. Family activities include making of Paschal Candle, special Stations of the Cross, setting up a Family Altar, designing a Garden for Mary, ceremonial instructions for a Seder Meal, recipes for special homemade breads and more. Also included are stories of special saints with activities and prayers. Finally, the book offers numerous craft activities including cross-stitching Guardian Angel patterns, and making alms boxes, Easter eggs, stained-glass pictures, table runners, along with many coloring pages.

As the world becomes more and more empty of a sense of the sacred, Christian and Catholic families are faced with a continuing problem and challenge most especially at those times traditionally set aside for the celebration of important events in the life of Jesus and thus in the faith of every Christian, whether adult or child — the problem of keeping and handing on “the deposit of faith.” Both Lent, that time of preparation and penance leading up to Easter, and Easter, the joyous feast of Jesus’s Resurrection, are, like Christmas, becoming increasingly secularized, emptied of their deep Christian symbolism, rendered mere occasions for cartoons for kids and televised athletic contests for adults.

It isn’t necessarily the first thing we think of when planning to do something enjoyable with good friends that perhaps not all of us will get to do it. I can remember a time, though, when I was young and we were on our way to the park. My Dad said I could bring along only one friend. We didn’t have room for more than that. I had to choose between two good friends; and leave one behind, alone. And, I could not stay home alone with both of them. In the end I chose neither, and had a perfectly miserable day alone. They told me when I got home that they had missed me, too. Both of them said that they’d have been happy to be left behind while the other had gone with me. Now, many years later I still sometimes wonder. It can be a very big problem learning the true nature of friendship and sacrifice. It can be an even larger one trying to teach such things to our children and grandchildren.

In Tales of Not So Long Ago: The Parish Picnic something very similar takes place, and the unfolding of the story presents a solution to the problem of self-sacrifice and Christian love for one another. It is a child’s story of a Parish picnic and a simple three-legged race, but the lesson learned has implications all through life. This is a book for parents and grandparents to read to their young ones, a book the young ones will enjoy for I the story and the lovely illustrations; a true and gentle story taken from real life. It is filled with good ideas about values and virtue, teaching important points about morality, fairness and self-sacrifice. Whether you buy it for your own home or as a gift, The Parish Picnic will be one of the best books in any child’s library.

The Christian Book Corner happily offers such unique and valuable treasures for discerning Christian and Catholic parents and others; books in the time honored tradition of the best in children’s literature, whether they be fantasy, fairy tales or stories designed to teach lessons , illustrate moral truths or strengthen the faith the little ones God has sent our way. t-CBC is committed to the very best products from the most reputable publishers at always generous discounts; all of them “Chosen with care; chosen with Prayer”

In a recent radio call-in show on NPR I heard a retired teacher say, quite seriously, that teachers are not teaching ‘content’ to students. Rather they are teaching them how to think. “Who remembers something they read forty years after reading it? How will that help them solve a problem when they are adults?” She asked, rhetorically. Indeed. I am just past seventy and remember many of those books, many of their stories. I listen to the children of another generation speaking, my own children and their friends, and they remember the same things. They remember the classical books, vintage texts, valuable lessons, timeless tales of fairy and fantasy that seem, if the teacher on the radio was correct, to have been of no value to anyone. I remember, too, the phrase “repetition fixes firmly” and wonder what is being repeated to today’s children, what will be repeated to tomorrow’s children and fixed firmly in their minds and, more importantly, in their souls. While we have them, and before the “world” gets them, the world “free of content”, to “teach them how to think” we have those golden moments, the signal opportunity to open the doors to wonder and truth for them in great works of fiction, lasting tales of great literature, bedtime stories, poetry and prose, and the life of virtue or simple good manners.

Whether you are a new parent or about to become one; whether you are looking for a baby gift, a unique shower gift for your best friend’s first or third child, something for the new Dad, or for a new set of grandparents the ISI Foundations Book Set is a great thing to consider. The Christian Book Corner (t-CBC) is interested in the very best in Christian, Catholic and main-stream literature, children’s books and stories and other media and this five volume “anthology” is a unique collection of valuable classics in children’s literature. The ISI Foundations Book Set makes a unique and perfect baby shower gift for a boy or girl. Each volume is filled with vintage children’s stories, fables and fantasies, for the littlest to youngsters who can read them on their own, or enjoy the pleasure of having them read as bedtime stories or at any time of day. As a gift, or for your own home, whether you are a parent, a grandparent or a doting Aunt or Uncle, you will find these five attractive volumes a wonderful addition to the library and to the life and education of the little ones God has placed in your care. It would also make a wonderful presentation gift for your school library.

As with all of our products at t-CBC, the ISI Foundations Book Set is available at our always liberal discount.
Today is a gray day. The weather will become colder. Rain will begin to fall. That means the children, those not yet in school, will be home, inside, most of the day; and when the others come home, and home work is done, they too will probably stay inside. (Sigh!) Perhaps you already have a plan and don’t worry at all about things like this. Or, you are one of the growing number of parents who home-school. Even so, there are “those days”. It is good to have something better perhaps than the Cartoon Channel available. There is ample evidence that suggests children, especially younger ones, learn best when they involve all their senses, or most of them, in their learning activity. The best programs, the good ones, always involve some form of practical application of the content of the lessons, either in the classroom or later on. The reinforcement thus gained assures retention of the lesson, and there is more than enough evidence to support the idea that almost everything a child experiences in one way or another is used by that child as a kind of learning experience. Play, work, and learning are all one thing when one is a certain age, and open to the wide world.

It is in that spirit that The Christian Book Corner is happy to offer a unique set of children’s coloring books from Second Spring Press: “Catholic Coloring Book Catechesis”. This is a set of three individual Christian themed coloring books for children titled: The Mass (in the new translation), Meet the Angels and God’s Covenant With You. Each of them is designed to introduce a child to various aspects of the faith, engaging them in learning through coloring the valuable lessons of the faith. Whether or not the day is gray, and you just need to give the little ones something to do, there is an abundance of good to be found in these books. As children’s books go, these valuable coloring books will help your child learn about their Catholic faith, their Christian values and morality, the teachings which have been the foundation of our culture. And, they will enjoy themselves in the doing. Books such as the “Catholic Coloring Book Catechesis” set are among the best children’s books to teach such subjects as morality and ethics to youngsters who may not yet know the words let alone the meanings of those concepts.

The Christian Book Corner (t-CBC) offers this set of books at its usual generous discount. Chosen from only the most reputable suppliers all of the t-CBC products are available at discount, and selected for their faithfulness to Christian virtues and values.
“Teach us to pray.” That was what His disciples asked Jesus to do. So, He taught them the Lord’s Prayer, probably the most widely known prayer throughout the Christian world. I have a friend who has what she calls her “Prayer corner”. Other friends have favorite chairs they sit in when praying. My grandmother always sat in one of them when she said the rosary at the same time every day using the set of beads she had, I always thought, since the Rosary was first prayed a million years ago. For as many of those people, there are far more folks who want to know how to do it; how to pray. They want to know the form, the technique, the manner, the time. It is for many people a problem and a worry. We have been urged to love God with our whole hearts and minds and strength. The problem arises then in our trying to accomplish that in the middle of busy lives.

We are that peculiar mixture of matter and spirit, body and soul, that must pray, and pray effectively. We are Earthen Vessels whether we are on our knees or not, whether or not we are saying daily prayers or praying for some inspirational insight. If we are serious about our relationship with God prayer becomes a way of life. How to pray to God, then, becomes a question which, sooner or later, arises in every Christian, every Catholic mind.

Oh, there are many books of prayer, simple prayers, prayers for the weather, the seasons, prayers of thanks, healing prayers and prayers for teachers, students, parents, children. Earthen Vessels, by Father Gabriel Bunge develops answers for us by exploring the prayer practices used with such great effect by the Church Fathers who were deeply-rooted in the Scriptures. They have left us a rich treasure as inheritance, not only of texts, but also of manners, forms and gestures of prayer. Today, western Christianity in a special way, needs to rediscover the intimate union which must exist—in prayer just as in any aspect of Christian life—between theory and practice, contemplation and practical exercise. One learns how to pray by praying, and the whole of our being is called to participate in this work: the mind, the heart, but also the body, the gaze, the senses; to link ourselves completely with the Holy Spirit who prays within us. Fr. Bunge, a hermit with great spiritual discernment and profound knowledge of the Fathers of the desert, presents with masterly coherence this important unity between what one believes and what one expresses in the practice of prayer: a fascinating rediscovery of the valuable treasure contained in the teachings of the Church Fathers on the practice of personal prayer.

Earthen Vessels is a book you will want to read and learn from to enrich your own prayer life. Available from The Christian Book Corner (t-CBC at our normal discounted price, this good book is only one of many such products “Chosen with care, chosen with Prayer”

Life, The Universe and All That, is the title of a book by Douglas Adams’ modern satire, a hit during the late 1980’s. In its own weird way it holds up a mirror to the problems and foibles that beset us then and beset us now; problems of our own making brought on by our own weaknesses. But, it provides no lasting response, gives no reasons, offers no answers to them. It is light fare, a dessert, if you will; and in the end good nourishment neither for mind or soul. As a matter of fact, Adams was an atheist who had no belief in an eternal soul, and couldn’t, therefore provide answers for it. Sometimes more is wanted. The answers we seek have always been available in novels and tales which grow out of the deepest yearnings and most creative thoughts about them by men and women whose hearts and minds are open to the truth. Though truth may scald in the telling and in the hearing, a hot meal builds one up and strengthens one. Georges Bernanos knew that.

The great theologian Hans Urs von Balthasar presents for us the work of a very good and very faithful observer of the human scene in his book “Bernanos”. It is a study of one of the 20th Century’s great novelists, the Frenchman Georges Bernanos, whose religious themed novels and stories concentrated on the life of faith and the struggles associated with it. The goal of the book is simply to convey what Bernanos wanted to say as the devout Christian and Catholic author that he was. Bernanos the author of the perennially popular “Diary of A Country Priest”, was a deeply prayerful Roman Catholic whose profound love for the Church made everything he created or wrote an "ecclesial existence that has been given form: existence derived not merely from an abstract, individual faith but from the faith of the Church." With judicious quoting of the primary sources and careful juxtaposing of texts and commentary, the theologian provides a unique forum from which the novelist can speak to the reader in a way that he can be clearly heard and genuinely understood. Whether it is simply good religious fiction which captures your interest, or the life of a Christian novelist and what motivates him, or a desire to see how the Christian lives out his life truly in merely ordinary, but at the same time extraordinary, circumstances you will be richly rewarded by “Bernanos”.

Never mind the playoffs. They will be around for a long time. This is the time of early dark, swift passing days and cozy chairs near the dancing fire. This is the time to come home and relax the way your grandparents relaxed in the quiet evening, and opened a good book so to lose themselves in another place among other people, on another journey. This is the time for novels, and stories of far-away places with strange sounding names. If your problem is being too much in the work-a-day world the solution is not to be found in yet another evening of the 6 and 11 with all its unalloyed telling of dreary tales and drearier hints of disaster in the next twelve hours’ weather. The solution is to drop out of that and into romance and adventure, knights and ladies, chivalry and faithfulness, love and loss and Love again.

Son of Dust is the story of Fulcun Geroy, the Catholic lord of a fief on the borders of 11th-century Normandy. Geroy falls in love with the wife of a rival at the court of William the Conqueror and becomes entangled in an adulterous affair. The liaison has fateful political, romantic, and religious consequences, as the Hamlet-like Fulcun struggles with the tension between his love for God and his passion for the flesh. Son of Dust is one of many riveting historical novels written by H. F. M. Prescott, who studied history at Oxford before she became a writer. It is an historical novel based on the lives of actual people as they were living during the Middle Ages; authentically set in the culture and customs of the day, beautifully written and accurately evoking every aspect of the time, the people and the land. At the same time, it is as up to date in its understanding of the psychological and spiritual damage we do to ourselves and other when we allow our passions to rule us. Truly Catholic and deeply Christian in its outlook and message, it is a novel for all. It exposes the struggle to rise above sin and rebellion, while still entangled in its web. Whether your interests lie in exploring the dynamics of the Middle Ages in Europe, the Code of Chivalry, good Catholic historical novels, romances or all of these things you will find much to enjoy in Son of Dust.

The Christian Book Corner (t-CBC) is pleased to offer Son of Dust at a significant discount. This edition also contains a free discussion guide within in case you wish to use it as a book club reading. t-CBC is dedicated to offering the best in Christian and Catholic literature, music, art work and educational materials selected from the most reputable suppliers in the industry and presented always at our outstanding discounts.
We hear much about greed these days. As the global economy stagnates, and all Europe verges on a financial depression, media reports are filled with recriminations regarding the various levels of greed which drove the world to the financial brink on which it has been teetering for several years now. If we did not know it before, we know it now… infectious greed is a corrosive disease which ruins many people, which can ruin whole nations and perhaps, will this time ruin the world. Proposed solutions to this corrosive disease in the form of laws and “guidelines” abound, but the problem at its root is much more resistant than we realize to anything we can propose for or force upon each other. One might well ask if there can possibly be any solution to it, any solution to the problems it creates, to the problems all human frailties … which once society as a whole called sin … create. There is.

Francois Mauriac, the Nobel Prize winning French novelist, made a career of writing about “human frailties,” exposing our inner darknesses and revealing what was and still is the only lasting remedy for them. Mauriac’s classic novel in this genre, The Viper’s Tangle, deals with the decaying effect of such corrosive greed upon one person and upon his relationships with everyone he should love but cannot because of his fatal flaw. Whether a person’s flaw is greed or some other of the so-called “deadly”sins, one comes away from Mauriac’s tale concluding that without grace, the result will be the same: misery here and torment elsewhere, for eternity. Mauriac’s narrator, an old man nearing the end of his life, pours out his sad and bitter life in a letter to his wife who hates him, as he says he hates her, because of her own greed. If you seek a serious, classic work of good fiction which deals with enduring truths, then this book is one you should read. It’s fiction, of course, but even as such it is truth, a Catholic novel in every sense of that word, illuminating classic Christian teaching about Good which could have been done but for the choices made to ignore grace and embrace selfish desires and the conflicts they inevitably produce. The Viper’s Tangle, one of the best novels to come out of France in the last century is, sadly enough, a cautionary tale for today as well.

Sometimes, beyond the front pages filled with news of disaster and war, celebrity divorces, policy initiatives and the latest scientific innovations come some stories of institutional changes in venerable, even ancient, bodies. One such story was about the latest changes in language of the English translation of the Latin Mass. Various experts and theologians gave their opinions. The results of polls were reported on. For a while, people wondered what it all meant; trying to determine if this change was conservative or liberal, forward thinking or reactionary. The thinking about it will continue, and will no doubt generate a lot of face time for pundits and posturers on Sunday Morning and elsewhere. The problem that remains, though, is the one we must all face and wrestle with: What is our relationship with God, and how may we best respond to His presence in our lives?
I have just finished reading a short novel by Brian Moore which even in its brevity plumbs the very depths of that two part question. What is our relationship with God? How do we respond to Someone who speaks so quietly, and who sometimes is silent for years? Moore writes about a group of Irish monks on a lonely island off the coast of Ireland who still celebrate the old Mass in Latin. This is a scandal to those who want to change things, to bring the Catholic Church into the modern world! The action takes place in the middle of a monastic community during one short day, and compresses into that exceedingly brief time span a couple thousand years of thought and experience. Whether you are interested in historical novels as a genre, religious themed fiction or stories about faith stripped bare, or simply the life of monks in community , Moore’s novel “Catholics” will grip your spirit. It is, in its own way, a modern parable (as all good novels should be)-- in a world much in need of the truths contained in parables. “Catholics” is a classic of short fiction, a novel about our response in faith to the problems and questions which are most important in our lives. An “historical” novel set in modern times whose main characters, though priests and monks, could just as easily be you and me.
The Christian Book Corner (t-CBC is pleased to offer “Catholics” by Brian Moore. and other classics of Christian and Catholic fiction at everyday low discounted prices.
It is, in its own way, a modern parable (as all good novels should be)– in a world much in need of the truths contained in parables.
"A hero is someone who rises above his or her fears and limitations to achieve something extraordinary ... a hero embodies what we believe is best in ourselves" - Danny Fingeroth
With today’s economic/political scene, the public is left with feelings of helplessness and endangerment. The world is looking for something more, something to fill the void, the emptiness, the lack of fulfillment, hope and something to suppress the desperation. We all look for something to make us feel safe, something to give us hope and encourage a better destiny for each of us. This is where superheroes come into play.
Superheroes play into our fantasies of being able to overcome anything and achieve greatness, or alternatively, on the flipside, some people would rather daydream about being rescued. Either way, they solve the problems of feeling like there is no hope to make things better. Although most understand that the idea of them is fictional, it's creative.
No matter how powerful you are in your own life, everyone feels helpless to changing things around them. Everyone thinks that if he or she had some kind of super power, they would be able to do so much more. Superheroes are the ideal that many people want to live up to.
Get lost in your fantasy; escape the economic and political scene with your favorite superhero at White Dragon Comics

I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living, it's a way of looking at life through the wrong end of a telescope. Which is what I do, and that enables you to laugh at life's realities. – Dr. Seuss

The word "imagination" comes from the Latin word imaginare and means "to form an image or to represent". Imagination has the power to create or re-create any sensation perceived or possibly perceived by the mind. What stirs the imagination, curiosity stirs the imagination. What is curiosity? Curiosity is the eagerness to know about something or to get information; curiosity is at the heart of all human progress. When faced with things that are previously unknown, our natural curiosity causes us to wonder about their nature and to attempt to explain their exisitence. That is when we begin to use our imagination.
Many people never realize just how important imagination is. The truth is that nothing at all would exist if not for imagination. Think about it. Before some one can invent something, like the wheel for instance, they first had to have the “idea” of the wheel; they had to “imagine” what it would look like and what it would do. That’s why imagination is so important, because nothing can be created without being imagined first.
Comic Books are a great way to stir the imagination they inspire creativity and allow us to escape to other worlds. With Comic Books we can fly around the world with Superman, we can hunt vampires along side Buffy, or slay space monsters with Flash Gordon.

Biblia Devocional Juvenile: NVI Spanish Bible

When you're faced with a tough decision, some people would tell you, "Just do it!" If you don't want to live with bad decisions, ask yourself the simple question, "What would Jesus do?" He always did the right thing, even though it wasn't always the easiest thing. Okay, but how do you answer this question in your life? What would Jesus do if his best friend tried to destroy his reputation? Or what if his folks were hassling him all the time? Or he found out that his older sister was using drugs? Or his youth group was boring? Or his teacher was trashing his belief in creation?

The Youth Walk Devotional Bible gives you an alternative. It helps you answer these and 250 other tough questions you struggle with. Each devotion starts with a real-life situation. Then the "Look it Up" feature compares it to a situation in the Bible. The "Think It Through" feature gets you looking at the situation from God's perspective. "Work it Out" gives you a practical action you can take to help you do the right thing. Finally, "Nail it Down," directs you to a passage in the Bible that relates to your situation and helps you apply that passage to your life. It's a great process--one that's helping over 350,000 teens who already use the Youth Walk Devotional Bible. This Bible uses the New International Version (NIV), a translation that is accurate and easy to understand. The NIV is trusted by millions of people as the best translation of God's Word available in English. The Youth Walk Devotional Bible combines a year's worth of devotions with a Bible you can rely on. It's the truth in your own words.

This soft cover Bible is only one of the Spanish translation Bibles that we offer in our Spanish language Bible section. Our prices are competitive because shipping is free.

Sometimes it happens. You sit down to spend a little quiet time away from the world, and try to get in touch with the Good Lord. As soon as you think you’ve settled yourself, quieted your mind, suddenly out of nowhere comes the thought that you haven’t done a wash, or the report for the boss needs some re-working, or you can’t remember what time to pick the kids up. “Oh, what’s the use,” you think. The problem may simply be in the method, not in you. Perhaps you need to step outside of the routine and try another “path” to God. In that case “Praying In Color” is perfectly fitted to your needs.

At The Christian Book Corner (t-CBC) we understand that these things can happen. If you need help communicating with God, or you hunger to know God better, this is your tool to use if all other avenues seem closed. If you love color or you are a visual or kinesthetic learner, a distractable or impatient soul, or a word-weary pray-er “Praying In Color” provides a solution to your problem. Perhaps you simply struggle with a short attention span, a restless body, or a tendency to live in your head. This new prayer form can take as little or as much time as you have or want to commit, from 15 minutes to a weekend retreat. "A new prayer form gives God an invitation and a new door to penetrate the locked cells of our hearts and minds," explains author Sybil MacBeth. "For many of us, using only words to pray reduces God by the limits of our finite words."
Use "Praying in Color" to help with: lectio divina -- reading the bible for spiritual growth, memorizing Scripture, prayers for discernment, creating Advent or Lenten calendar, praying for enemies. It is ideal for: Intergenerational Education Classes, Men’s and Women's Meetings, Workshops and Retreats, Vacation Bible School and Summer Camp, Sunday School Classes, Various Church-wide Programs, Senior Citizens Activity, Youth Confirmation Retreats, Prayer Therapy During Convalescence, Kindergarten and Children's Prayer Training, Homeschooling, grades K-12, Prison Ministry, Ministry to the disabled and imprisoned.

The number of people who haven't heard the scriptural question, “What did you go out to see?” cannot be very large. The number of people who try to figure out what it means for their own lives is probably much smaller. It isn't common to stop and think about what it means to “worship” God, to try to understand what actually takes place, or should take place in any Catholic Mass, Orthodox Divine Liturgy or Protestant worship service. But, perhaps it should be. Yet, worship is one of mankind’s most profound activities; perhaps our most profound and important activity. Only we can do worship. Only we have “liturgical” dimensions to our lives. Knowing, understanding what that is and how it affects us is necessary for doing it well. There is no wisdom in doing anything important without knowing why or how best to do it.
The Sacred Liturgy, declares Vatican II, is the font from which all the Church's spiritual power flows. In his modern classic work The Wellspring of Worship, Fr. Jean Corbon explores the meaning of the Liturgy as the "wellspring" or source of the Church's life and worship of God. The Liturgy itself is a sharing in the mystery of the Triune God and in the Incarnation, Passion, Death, Resurrection and Ascension of Jesus. Corbon writes that it is "the mystery of the river of life that streams from the Father and the Lamb", into which believers are to be drawn. In this way, the divine river waters their entire lives, renewing and transforming them. The Wellspring of Worship is a masterful reflection on the mystery of God's Trinitarian life and how the Church's members participate in that life through the Liturgy. If you are seeking to understand what liturgy is, why it is important for you and for the whole world, this is a book to read, to share and to talk about.

KJV Deluxe Family Hard Cover Bible - Ivory

My family had a family Bible that was not in the best condition because it had been passed down through generations of my family. Although well worn, it was very valuable to us as a family because it had records of all of the births and deaths as well as other important events in my family’s history. This Bible was also used by my family for Bible study. My father would read from its pages to the family from this great book. When I grew up and had a family of my own, the family Bible passed to my hands. It was my responsibility to take care of and preserve this very important legacy. This responsibility weighed heavily on me because I wanted to keep documenting the important records of my family, but also knew that this Bible should not be used, but preserved for the family to enjoy.

I decided to keep the old family Bible in a safe place to preserve it, but to keep it from remaining available for everyday use. I then decided to purchase a new family Bible to continue recording important family records. The Bible that I purchased was a Stampley Family Bible because Stampley Bibles had the reputation of being the "World's Most Beautiful Bibles". Stampley Family Bibles are available in multiple translations and languages, and are distinguished for deluxe side sewn bindings, gilded page edges, Family Record sections on fine parchment paper, extensive prayer and study aids, and stunning Old Master art. This KJV Deluxe Family Bible features an attractive ivory binding, a crisp, clear typesetting with the words of Christ in red, more than 125 color illustrations, comprehensive study aids, and includes within its covers a 200 page Biblical Dictionary Index and Concordance and a special Illustrated Bible for young and old. It makes an ideal gift for weddings, anniversaries, or other special occasions, or simply as a replacement Bible so that you can retire your old family Bible like I did. It is a stunning work of art and devotion that will be treasured for generations to come.

My Personal Bible Store offers this beautiful hard cover Bible at a very competitive price. We also have other versions of the Bible that can be used for the family. We offer free shipping so that the price you see online is the price that you pay.

Historical novels when well written are a wonderful way to learn the enduring truths about ourselves reflected in the light of ages and the lives of great people. Reading historical novels is like taking a vacation in the past come alive as if we were walking through by gone days and places. We meet people and observe events with a greater immediacy than if we read about them in a thickly annotated textbook.

Evelyn Waugh, the author of the famous Brideshead Revisited, and one of the best writers England has produced, wrote a book about the woman who found the Cross on which Christ was crucified,
Helena. Simply for that reason, it is worth reading. Helena (aka St. Helen) is the intelligent, horse-mad daughter of a British chieftain who is suddenly betrothed to a warrior who becomes the Roman emperor Constantius. Helena spends her life seeking truth in the religions, mythologies, and philosophies of the declining ancient world—but to no avail. Eventually she discovers truth in Christianity—and literally in the Cross of Christ. With an introduction by George Weigel, himself a prolific and brilliant author, this new edition of Helena from Loyola Press also includes a discussion guide for book clubs or study groups.

At The Christian Book Corner (t-CBC) you will find many such quality products as Helena at our normal discount prices. We choose from among a wide range of offerings from reputable sources and publishers of fine books, cds and DVDs. Visit t-CBC to sample browse our offerings, all of them “chosen with care; chosen with Prayer”.

“The family that prays together stays together.” Those were the simple words made popular by Father Patrick Peyton, an Irish priest, whose show on television rivaled Bishop Fulton Sheen’s in popularity. Father Peyton knew that prayer in the family setting was a wonderful way to build family closeness and teach children about love, faith and family solidarity

The Rosary in some form has been around for centuries. It is merely a form of meditating on the life of Christ while praying the words of the Lord’s Prayer and the Hail Mary, an ancient prayer to Mary, the Mother of God using the words of the angel Gabriel to her; words right from the scripture. “Life of Christ in the Mysteries of the Rosary” Father Peyton produced a series of original dramas for his TV show in Spain using all of the best techniques of film available. Now, in a three dvd set, these original works are available from The Christian Book Corner (t-CBC). The films are meant as a guide and teaching tool to build faith and family prayer, and to bring parents and children closer together in an activity that is wholesome and good.

NASB Thinline Bible

In order to live a good Christian life, you need to be able to study the Bible scriptures and it would be most helpful to be able to do so at any time. You may read books and magazines while you are commuting to work on the train or bus; or while you are taking a lunchbreak from your job or school.

The New American Standard Bibleis the excellent solution for you if you want to study the Bible while commuting. The NASB is probably the most word-for-word type translation available today which makes it a good version to use for Bible study. Although this Bible is a thin, smaller size to fit in your briefcase or travel bag, it does not leave out any details that a NASB version would offer. It also has a beautiful Italian Duo-Tone™ leather cover that makes it a perfect and durable choice for the Family Bible.

MyPersonalBibleStore.com offers the most popular versions of the Bible. We don’t just offer one NASB Bible in the New American Standard Bible Category. We have a variety of NASB Bibles to choose from, depending on your own personal needs. Our prices are competitive and shipping is always free.

Thomas Nelson Giant Print KJV Bible

If you are like me, when you reached a “certain age”, your vision changed and you needed special glasses for reading fine print. Sometimes those glasses didn’t even help, especially with the standard fine print that is usually found in the Bible.
Now we have a solution that helps with Bible study. The Thomas Nelson Giant Print KJV Bible is set in 13 ½ point giant print type. This Bible is not only great for Bible study, it is also less eye straining and is more comfortable to read. This Bible is also affordable and has attractive leather binding.

This is just one of the choices that we offer in our Large and Giant Print Bible section. Shipping is free which makes our prices very competitive.
