Does your boy love to sketch?
It is a common characteristic of boys to love to draw, but not be good at communicating with words. Would you be interested in a program that teaches your child to write and draw at the same time?
Draw Write Now! is a series of books that helps the beginning writer do just that! Your child can learn to sketch animals, develop hand-eye co-odination and fine motor skills and learn to write stories about them also.
Each book deals with a different set of themes, mostly Science or Social Studies related. So start with one that suits your child’s interests, and if it works for him, add another one later on.
This award winning series is sure to be a hit with your reluctant writer!

Would you park your car in your livingroom with the windows and doors closed the motor running and let your children play there? Well you might as well if you burn regular paraffin candles. They are made from the same thing you burn in your car, petroleum! Gives off the same fumes. SOY CANDLES do not. They burn clean , soot free won’t stain your walls and celling or harm your children. you can get them right here in 5 colors and 20 fragrances. http://www.soycandlebykb.com

There is no better way to bond with your child than to build something together.
Earlier this year I searched the stores looking for a basic building kit. I couln’t find one anywhere.
To start from scratch and build a toy from the framework to the paint and decals makes a great project. If you do it as a father/son project, the memories that go with that bonding time by far outway the actual project.
Check out this Wood Worx Space Shuttle Kit. It comes complete with everything you need.
I won’t promise it will take you to the moon, but it could provide satisfaction and something to display proudly in your child’s room.

Give Your Child a Place to Publish His Works of Art
Children love to create. They especially love to have others see and comment on their creations. There is nothing that makes a child prouder than to see his work of art on display. Be sure to praise him and let him show his work to others. Some ideas on how to publish your child’s work:
1. Post it on the refrigerator. You get to see it every time you open the fridge door or work around the kitchen.
2. Put it in a frame and mount it on the wall like other works of art.
3. Hang a gallery of his pictures in his room or a hallway.
4. Have it made into a postcard and send it to friends and family.
5. Buy a clear coaster set where you add the pictures. You would just need to copy and size the pictures. This would be a great Christmas gift.
6. Get the image printed on a mug.
7. Get an image printed on a T-Shirt.
8. Create a calender with a different work of art on each month. These can be seasonal drawings or just a random collection. One of the best Christmas gifts we ever got was a calender from a family member who is too far away for us to see often. The calender had photographs of her two children and husband at different seasons and events of the year. What a great way to catch up on events we missed! A calender like that with Art work over time would be just as special. It also would be an inexpensive and memorable gift that makes you and your child think of the recipient often.
9. Enter an art or coloring contest where the submissions are displayed.
10. Write a book. Get him to illustrate it. He could help write it. He could write it himeslf. If it has a story line, he could read it over and over and show his creation to family and friends. Using a photo album with plastic sleeves where you add your work makes the book look polished and professional.

Good Morning from LaGrange, IN. Large Wind Chimes with Church Like sound sound delightful to the ears because the wind is the composer of the harmonics or disharmonies that are produced when they are moved. The wind chimes that sound the best are the ones that are based on music, chords and the science of matching musical tones.
You can also buy Large Windchimes that are tuned to different tonal scales. One harmonic scale that is quite common is what is called the pentatonic scale, which is a scale of major notes that was first used in chimes in ancient Greece. You can also fine this type of scale in soprano, tenor, alto and bass versions. Usually the larger the tube is the deeper the sound of the chime will be if it is hit by something.
Yet another interesting tonal scale for Wind Chimes is the Mongolian scale, which consists all of lower tenor notes and bass notes. Although they have very little to do with Christianity they very much like church bells when they strike each other. The important thing to remember about Wind Chimes is that they must be placed somewhere where they will receive a bit of a breeze or they will not make any beautiful music at all.
We carry a very nice selection of large Wind Chimes handcrafted by a Local Amish Craftsman.

Edith Herbert John, the daughter of famous contemporary Navajo folk artist Woody Herbert, started carving cottonwood in 1990 for fun, working with her father to make toys for the children. The immense popularity of her work has made carving an important sourse of income for the family. Her husband Guy works with Edith to make stylized creatures in every imaginable color. Owls, crows and chickens in all sizes are among the Johns’ most sought after carvings. Edith and Guy live in Sweetwater, AZ with their two children.

YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK PHOTOGRAPHS NOW AVAILABLE –
I now have a new section to my site, http://www.myroute66pictures.com which features black and white fine art photos I made with a large format camera (8×10 inch negatives) in 1958. In celebration of this, the 50th year since the photos were made, I expect have two shows of these photographs in the Los Angeles area this year. I’ll keep you posted.
I’m very proud of these photos and ask you to take a look at them. Just go to http://www.myroute66pictures.com/page/20402214/ . The largest size I list on my site is 20×24 inches image size on 24×30 inch paper, but the negatives are so large and loaded with detail that one of them could be printed larger, if you wish.

If the calender says it is spring why are there still snow drifts in my yard? Because it’s the midwest - that’s why!! You can bring some spring inside even though it still looks like winter outside. Country Wonders can offer you spring in a jar. Our wonderful handmade soy wax candles will make you think spring. Lilac, honeysuckle, peony and jasmine top our list of spring inducing soy wax candles. And don’t worry about those “black clouds” caused by other candles, these soy wax candles will burn soot free; and smell great.

PHOTOGRAPHING ROUTE 66 IN THE GOLDEN LIGHT
Remember the Golden Rule which you were taught as a child? It went something like this: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” I think you one might apply that same adage to photos made of Route 66: “Do unto Route 66 as you would have other photographers do unto you.” That is to say, bathe the subject in warm light.
I’ve scoured my Route 66 photography site and found a few shots which reflect how the late afternoon or early morning light can add depth and life to inanimate objects. I’ll start with a California shot, http://www.myroute66pictures.com/product/1009 . This “CAFE & MOTEL” sign, now directing us to a non-existent motel, was shot just a few minutes before sunset. Notice that not only is the sign bathed in a golden light, but the weeds in the foreground and the hills in the background are sculptured by the crossing light, giving the picture added depth.
Another California shot, http://www.myroute66pictures.com/product/1008 , of a Daggett, California house and trailer at dawn, painted the house and sand in front of it a golden color, while not affecting the blue sky or grey clouds. Having a blue sky in the background, by comparison, makes the house and sand look more golden. This house faced north, and since I made the photo in June, I knew the sun would strike the north face very, very early in the morning, and very, very late in the afternoon. Since I wanted the sun to strike not only the house but the trailer as well, I had to make the shot in the early morning to avoid the trailer falling into the house’s shadow by late afternoon.
A number of other shots you might want to study are of the Petrified Wood store in Joseph City, Arizona, and the Winslow, Arizona apartment. Also check out the Stewart Grain Company in Oklahoma, and the Mobil Station in Vinita, Oklahoma.
Enjoy your photography.

Spring is coming!! It has to, the calender says it will. That is outside, inside in our shop it is spring! Lilac is spring. Remember the beautiful full lavender blooms that smell so wonderful? That same fragrance can be found in our soywax candles, air fresheners and bath and body products. This is no ordinary fragrance that gives you a hint of lilac. This fragrance took us three years to find, testing samples from a multitude of different companies. Finally, we found the perfect lilac. After that we were able to produce a wonderful lilac fragrance in our soywax candles. Our customers loved it so much that we carried it over to many of our other products. Enjoy this wonderful spring fragrance any time of the year. http://countrywonders.com

SPRING IS A GREAT SEASON TO PHOTOGRAPH ROUTE 66
Polish those lenses and dust off your tripod, because it won’t be long before the snow melts, the grass turns green, and the skies clear! I think spring is the best time of the year to make photographs of and indeed to tour the sights along Route 66. Winter can be more than a little dangerous with snow storms and icy roads in the high country of Arizona and New Mexico - and all the way back to Chicago, for that matter. Summer, conversely, can be very warn (shall we say hot?) in the deserts of west Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. Many of the photos on my Route 66 site, http://www.myroute66pictures.com , were made in spring.
OK, you might ask “what’s wrong with fall?” Well, nothing’s “wrong” with fall, except that the fires in the west often substantially reduce the clarity of the skies in California, Arizona, New Mexico and parts of Texas. Not that they’re terrible, mind you…..just that, if you want to make photos of the Mother Road, spring is a better season…actually the best season, in my opinion.
An example of a nice shot made in spring is the shot of “Budville buildings” on the New Mexico page of my site. It was made in late May when there was enough rain to make the grass in the foreground green. At any other season the grass is dead, and brown. Click here to see it: http://www.myroute66pictures.com/product/3002 .
Have a great season
